Job Description:

Manufacturing Engineer - Defence and Military Systems - Permanent - Attractive - South-West

A Manufacturing Engineer is required to join an international defence systems company that designs, manufactures, and supports military systems. The successful Manufacturing Engineer will report to the Head of Quality and will improve the supply chain quality performance of specific suppliers, products, or services.

The Manufacturing Engineer will manage supplier concerns, lead APQP activities, conduct problem resolution, and support continuous improvement initiatives. The role reports directly to the Quality Manager.

Responsibilities include:
  • Develop and own quality improvement roadmaps.
  • Support implementation and maintenance of systems and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with AS9100/ISO9001 standards.
  • Lead quality improvement programs using KPI analysis, FMEA, and other tools.
  • Generate supplier performance reports for management review.
  • Support production quality plans for new products.
  • Map and review processes, implement controls like PFMEA and Control Plans.
  • Prepare and submit quality approval documentation.
  • Collaborate with supply chain, engineering, and project management teams.
  • Approve new products/services per company procedures.
  • Manage non-conforming product incidents and root cause analysis.
  • Ensure supply chain compliance with QMS.
  • Participate in supplier visits and audits.
  • Use R&R studies and SPC for process improvements.
  • Support design reviews and cost estimations.
  • Assist in off-site manufacturing activities as needed.
  • Achieve annual objectives set by management.
  • Supervise manufacturing engineering activities and inspection priorities.
  • Manage gauge calibration and other duties as required.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
  • Minimum HNC/Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in manufacturing or supply chain quality environment.
  • Experience with quality improvement and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Proficiency with APQP tools, PFMEA, Control Plans, FAI.
  • Knowledge of statistical tools like 8D, 5 Why, Six Sigma.
  • Understanding of AS9100 and ISO9001 standards.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to influence others.
  • Security clearance (SC) required.
  • Experience with new product development is desirable.
  • Familiarity with ITAR, UK export legislation, and ERP/MRP systems.

Security Clearance (SC) will be required due to the nature of the Defence products involved.
