Manufacturing Engineer : Defence and Military Systems : Permanent : Attractive : South:West
A Manufacturing Engineer is required to join an international Defence Systems company that designs, manufactures, and supports world-leading Military Systems. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Quality and will be responsible for improving the end-to-end supply chain quality performance of specific suppliers, internal products, or services.
The Manufacturing Engineer will manage supplier concerns, lead APQP activities with customers and suppliers, and conduct problem resolution and continuous improvement initiatives. The role reports directly to the Quality Manager.
Responsibilities include:
- Devising and owning elements of the quality improvement roadmap.
- Supporting the implementation and maintenance of systems and procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with AS9100/ISO9001 standards and requirements.
- Leading specific Quality Improvement Programmes.
- Utilising KPI analysis, FMEA, and other tools for process improvement.
- Generating supplier quality performance reports for senior management review.
- Supporting the implementation of Production Quality Plans for new products.
- Mapping and reviewing processes, supporting robust process introduction using PFMEAs and Control Plans.
- Preparing and submitting Quality Approval documentation.
- Collaborating with Supply Chain, Engineering, and Programme Management teams.
- Approving new products and services per company procedures.
- Managing activities related to non-conforming product containment incidents.
- Identifying root causes for robust problem resolution.
- Ensuring supply chain compliance with QMS.
- Participating in supplier visits and audits.
- Using R&R studies and SPC for ongoing process improvements.
- Supporting design reviews and cost estimations.
- Supporting off-site visits and manufacturing activities as needed.
- Delivering annual objectives set by the manager.
- Supervising subcontract manufacturing engineering activities and inspection priorities.
- Managing gauge calibration.
- Performing additional duties as required.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Minimum HNC/Degree in Engineering or Business-related discipline (or equivalent).
- Experience in manufacturing quality or supply chain quality environments.
- Preferably in high-volume manufacturing.
- Experience with Quality Improvement programmes and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Proficiency with APQP tools, PFMEAs, Control Plans, and FAI Reports.
- Knowledge of statistical analysis tools like 8D, 5 Why, Six Sigma.
- Understanding of AS9100 and ISO9001 standards.
- Team player with initiative and influencing skills.
- Strong communication skills and ability to obtain SC clearance.
- Experience with new product development and introduction projects is desirable.
- Familiarity with ITAR, UK export legislation, and ERP/MRP systems.
- Knowledge of TS 16949 and ISO14001 standards is optional.
Security Clearance (SC) will be required due to the nature of the Defence products involved.
