Job Description

Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer – 1) Composites 3D Weaving or 2) Textiles Engineer/Programmer

Working Pattern: Full time

Location: Bristol

Rolls-Royce is developing manufacturing methods, processes, and materials for composite fan systems. We are experiencing growth as we deliver composite components and manufacturing programs across Civil Aerospace and Defence divisions.

This is an excellent opportunity for two Manufacturing Engineers to join the Composite Technology Facility (CTF) in our Engineering, Technology, and Safety business. Responsibilities include:

  • Developing the 3D Weaving manufacturing process for a novel fan system.
  • Creating, verifying, and optimizing preform designs for various preforming methods, primarily 3D Weaving.

The roles are based in CTF Bristol on the Filton site, with visits to offsite facilities and collaboration with Rolls-Royce Derby, external suppliers, and the National Composites Centre (NCC).

Why Rolls-Royce?

With a legacy of innovation for over a century, Rolls-Royce designs, builds, and services systems providing critical power where safety and reliability are essential. We foster a culture of progress, powering, protecting, and connecting people globally.

We aim to continue our tradition of excellence and ingenuity, inviting you to join us on this journey.

The Engineering, Technology, and Safety (ET&S) business operates across all divisions, promoting a culture of One Team, One Strategy, One Rolls-Royce.

We provide an environment of inclusion and growth, offering opportunities to develop your career and make a difference.

These roles offer the chance to influence the next-generation composite fan system, managing work packages within CTF and delivering results with cross-functional teams from Design, Technical, Operations, and Quality.

What we offer

Excellent development opportunities, a competitive salary, and benefits including bonuses, employee support, and discounts.

Responsibilities

Individuals will work with highly capable engineers focused on advanced technology delivery. Key tasks include:

  1. Developing and delivering composite preform processes, including 3D Weaving, for the latest fan systems.
  2. Ensuring processes meet safety, quality, cost, delivery, and lead-time requirements.
  3. Creating technical packages (equipment specs, TI’s, PFMEAs, tooling, HSE docs) to define and control manufacturing processes.
  4. Identifying opportunities for process improvements using statistical tools (Ppk, Cpk) and sharing best practices.
  5. Driving processes toward Zero Defects, owning technology plans, and supporting industrialization.
  1. Designing preforms and programming equipment for composite preforming processes.
  2. Collaborating with internal and external specialists, acting as the focal point in Design for Manufacture.
  3. Understanding manufacturing processes to support equipment and software, optimizing within Rolls-Royce Production System.
  4. Ensuring machine programs and products meet safety, quality, cost, and delivery requirements, supporting technology readiness and industrialization.
Candidate Profile

We value safety, integrity, simplicity, and making a difference. The successful candidate will:

  • Hold an engineering or relevant qualification (Degree, HND, or HNC) with manufacturing engineering experience.
  • Have experience with 3D weaving or similar textile manufacturing processes.
  • Understand technology readiness levels (TRL) and process maturity.
  • Be familiar with manufacturing engineering tools to improve processes towards zero defects.
  • Experience with aerospace management systems and process controls is preferred.

Additional preferred skills include expertise in textile design and manufacture, CAD/CAM software (e.g., CATIA, Siemens NX), and programming skills (Python, C#).

We are committed to diversity and inclusion, supporting security clearance for UK nationals or dual nationals as required.
