Job description

Manufacturing Engineer Apprentice, Slough

We have a fantastic opportunity for an Apprentice Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at John Crane in Slough. As an Apprentice, you will support our production area, assisting with the smooth operation of manufacturing processes and daily activities. This role provides a comprehensive understanding of production activities and advanced manufacturing technology, with rotations through gas seals assembly, testing, and quality teams. Based at our headquarters in Slough, the role operates Monday to Friday during normal office hours.

By the end of this 4-year Apprenticeship, you will be equipped to support operations process controls, address machine issues, and implement improvements using Lean methodologies.

Training and Responsibilities
  • Improve KPIs for production areas within our Slough plant
  • Create and update standards and process instructions using Visual Factory
  • Implement cost-reduction initiatives
  • Manage key projects from conception to completion, ensuring milestones and objectives are met on time and within budget
  • Support continuous improvement (CI) initiatives and Kaizen activities
  • Provide hands-on support for production functions
  • Assist the NPD team with PFMEAs, risk assessments, and control plans
  • Prepare cost estimates, formulate schedules, and monitor production/CapEx projects
  • Communicate effectively with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to provide technical support
Qualifications
  • GCSEs in English Language (grade 5+), Maths (grade 5+), and other relevant subjects
  • A Levels or equivalent in science, technology, or engineering (grade B or equivalent BTEC Level 3), including Maths (grade B)
  • Relevant industry experience or additional qualifications are encouraged and can be considered for apprenticeship adjustments
