Job description

An opportunity exists for a Manufacturing Engineer within the Operations Segment, reporting to the Engineering Manager.

The primary objective of this position is to:

Improve assembly and primary processes, drive automation implementation, and use Lean principles of Flow, TAKT, and Value Analysis to reduce costs. Support new product introductions and factory layouts. Drive safety and sustainability improvements.

Key responsibilities and duties include:

  1. Develop safety aspects of ASSA ABLOY manufacturing.
  2. Develop alternative production methods using Lean tools and techniques.
  3. Support and drive automation and robotics implementation.
  4. Establish plant and equipment investment requirements, quantify the return, and justify expenditure.
  5. Value engineer products and processes to reduce costs.
  6. Design manufacturing processes for new products as part of the new product introduction process.
  7. Create drawings and concepts using software such as CAD SolidWorks, ME10, and Microsoft Windows.
  8. Conduct problem solving and root cause analysis.
  9. Engage with the shop floor and wider team to resolve issues/problems.
  10. Communicate and collaborate with other operational departments.
  11. Develop productivity improvements using Lean techniques (e.g., SMED, TPM, Standard Ops, Capability Studies).
  12. Implement quality improvements (e.g., gauging, traceability, measuring).
  13. Perform product cost and runtime analysis.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Understand and be able to read production drawings.
  • Have experience in Lean Manufacturing.
  • Possess good IT skills and familiarity with ERP systems, including placing Purchase Orders.
  • Have been an Engineering Apprentice with ONC/HNC/Level 3 NVQ in Mechanical Engineering or be a Graduate with a BSc/BEng in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Have project management experience.
  • Proven experience in improving productivity in a professional environment.
  • Experience with investment justification and payback analysis.
  • CAD experience.
