Responsibilities
  1. Provide technical guidance and problem-solving skills to the manufacturing and assembly teams to help ensure build quality and standards are achieved in line with the programme schedule.
  2. Act as the communication link between manufacturing/assembly and engineering, ensuring clear and accurate directions are given.
  3. Become the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for gear profile generation (hobbing, shaping, and profile grinding) and finish grinding (journals & cones/thrust faces), liaising between Design Engineering and machine tool operators.
  4. Guide manufacturability of components and machine tool capabilities to support design reviews and ensure a right first-time approach.
  5. Lead PFMEAs, including process mapping, risk mitigation, and creation/approval of procedures and protocols.
  6. Interpret technical drawings and create/manufacture drawings.
  7. Ensure planning and processes meet Quality Assurance requirements.
  8. Drive Continuous Improvement activities related to quality, cycle time, and process enhancements.
  9. Design bespoke methods and tooling, maintaining Machinery Safety regulations.
  10. Collaborate with internal teams (manufacturing, design engineering, quality) and external parties (supply chain, auditors).
  11. Create works orders and collate tech packs with accurate routings and operations.
  12. Understand heat treatment processes and their implications.
Qualifications
  • Engineering Degree or equivalent with proven practical engineering and manufacturing knowledge.
  • Consideration for candidates without accredited qualifications based on experience.
Essential Skills
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods for rotating components, including turning, boring, and milling.
  • Understanding of engineering, manufacturing techniques, and business systems.
  • Knowledge of dimensional measurement systems and principles.
  • Ability to interpret and create technical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T.
  • Experience with CNC programming.
  • SAP experience in manufacturing engineering context.
  • Knowledge of gear manufacturing, high tolerance machining, and related operations.
  • Experience in developing material handling solutions.
  • Ability to use jigs and fixtures safely for delicate operations.
  • Experience working in a manufacturing environment with engineering design and supply chain.
  • Support prototype build activities and process validation.
  • Knowledge of process control and problem investigation tools (PFMEAs, control plans, RCA, etc.).
  • Innovative thinking for new product introduction.
  • Experience in product development and manufacturing capability enhancement.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, and Quality Tools.
  • Proactive team player with autonomous working ability.
  • Good communication skills and sound technical judgment.
  • Assertiveness and ability to work in a multicultural environment.
