Our client, a key player in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a talented Manufacturing Engineer to join their Operations team in Sunbury on Thames, SRY. This is a permanent role within the Air Technology business unit, aimed at providing manufacturing engineering expertise to support both existing and new products, and to drive forward strategic Lean initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with manufacturing cell leaders, the lean co-ordinator, and design engineering to enhance process efficiencies
  • Generate and maintain manufacturing documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Routings, and Visual Factory displays
  • Create and maintain routings within the MRP system
  • Implement lean manufacturing methods such as one-piece flow lines and visual factory to reduce rework/scrap, throughput times, and work in progress
  • Utilise basic improvement tools such as 5S, 7 Wastes, Visual Management, and Standardised Work to support balanced assembly lines
  • Support layout changes and involve facilities and maintenance teams in the process
  • Record and analyse production data to focus on key issues and support manufacturing cells
  • Initiate and lead improvement projects and capital expenditure (CAPEX) to facilitate new process and product introductions
  • Work with Engineering on product documentation modifications and parts obsolescence
  • Provide day-to-day manufacturing engineering support to ensure customer schedule adherence
  • Lead teams to develop process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and implement changes
  • Manage new product introductions and legacy product manufacturing through all stages of the product life cycle
  • Mentor cell leaders to enhance methods of manufacturing assembly and testing

Job Requirements:

  • Proven experience in a similar manufacturing engineering role
  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and implementing standard work processes
  • Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and substantial experience in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment
  • Proficient in problem-solving techniques, including 5 Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa diagrams, and 8D analysis
  • Proven track record of generating and maintaining process maps, PFMEAs, and control plans
  • Excellent time management skills with a history of planning and managing complex, long-term projects
  • Experience in the aerospace manufacturing or a closely related industry
  • Methodical, logical approach with strong attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset
  • Team player with the ability to work in a concurrent engineering team
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
  • Ability to present and communicate effectively to small groups
  • Self-motivated individual with strong leadership qualities and the ability to handle pressure
  • Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and process control techniques
