Our client, a key player in the Defence & Security sector, is currently seeking a talented Manufacturing Engineer to join their Operations team in Sunbury on Thames, SRY. This is a permanent role within the Air Technology business unit, aimed at providing manufacturing engineering expertise to support both existing and new products, and to drive forward strategic Lean initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with manufacturing cell leaders, the lean co-ordinator, and design engineering to enhance process efficiencies
- Generate and maintain manufacturing documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Routings, and Visual Factory displays
- Create and maintain routings within the MRP system
- Implement lean manufacturing methods such as one-piece flow lines and visual factory to reduce rework/scrap, throughput times, and work in progress
- Utilise basic improvement tools such as 5S, 7 Wastes, Visual Management, and Standardised Work to support balanced assembly lines
- Support layout changes and involve facilities and maintenance teams in the process
- Record and analyse production data to focus on key issues and support manufacturing cells
- Initiate and lead improvement projects and capital expenditure (CAPEX) to facilitate new process and product introductions
- Work with Engineering on product documentation modifications and parts obsolescence
- Provide day-to-day manufacturing engineering support to ensure customer schedule adherence
- Lead teams to develop process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and implement changes
- Manage new product introductions and legacy product manufacturing through all stages of the product life cycle
- Mentor cell leaders to enhance methods of manufacturing assembly and testing
Job Requirements
- Proven experience in a similar manufacturing engineering role
- Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) and implementing standard work processes
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and substantial experience in an electro-mechanical manufacturing environment
- Proficient in problem-solving techniques, including 5 Whys, Fishbone/Ishikawa diagrams, and 8D analysis
- Proven track record of generating and maintaining process maps, PFMEAs, and control plans
- Excellent time management skills with a history of planning and managing complex, long-term projects
- Significant IT skills including Microsoft Office suite
- Experience in the aerospace manufacturing or a closely related industry
- Methodical, logical approach with strong attention to detail and a results-oriented mindset
- Team player with the ability to work in a concurrent engineering team
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English
- Ability to present and communicate effectively to small groups
- Self-motivated individual with strong leadership qualities and the ability to handle pressure
- Knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and process control techniques
