Job summary

MBDA is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer for the PCBA team at our Stevenage site. The role focuses on low-volume, high-mix early development PCBA and transitioning designs to serial production, with opportunities to grow into future manufacturing architectures and NPI support.

You will lead manufacturing work instructions, BOM control, and PFMEA development while collaborating with design and operations to ensure manufacturability and safe, efficient production.

Qualifications

  • Formal technical Engineering/Craft Apprenticeship to NVQ Level 3 and Formal further education certificate to HNC or equivalent in a relevant subject.
  • Degree in relevant Engineering subject.
  • Electrical experience would be preferred.
  • Must demonstrate a proactive approach to problem solving and commitment to work to meet our delivery milestones.
  • Have the ability to interpret Design Drawings with a view to producing Manufacturing Build Instructions.
  • Must be able to work within and contribute to a team environment.
  • Awareness of digital communication platforms to work and communicate effectively within the workplace.

Responsibilities

  • Write and review manufacturing work instructions
  • Review and control design changes including Bill of Materials creation and maintenance
  • Resolve issues and queries with the operations team on shop floor
  • Support CI activities
  • Support the Non-Conformance Process
  • Ensure processes and equipment contribute to a safe working environment following both company processes and legal obligations.
  • Interface with the design authority during the product prototype/development phase, to ensure optimised Design for Manufacture (DfM)
  • Develop and maintain manufacturing methods, processes and equipment to provide a robust and repeatable manufacturing system.
  • Develop and maintain cross functional relationships with key stakeholders and suppliers
  • Perform and review PFMEAs
  • Develop tooling to aid the manufacturing process
  • Create and modify machine programmes for the manufacture or inspection of PCBAs

Job description

An exciting new opportunity has become available as part of Engineering function within the Manufacturing, Prototype and Development facility as a Senior Manufacturing Engineer in the PCBA team.

Salary: Circa £43,500 depending on experience

Dynamic (hybrid) working: 4/5 days per week on-site due to workload classification

Security Clearance: British Citizen or a Dual UK national with British citizenship

Restrictions and/or limitations relating to nationality and/or rights to work may apply. As a minimum and after offer stage, all successful candidates will need to undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard checks (BPSS), which are managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.

The opportunity:

As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for various technical aspects of PCBA and will be working on low volume high mix early development PCBA, Maturing designs for transition to serials production as well as medium volume low mix Production standard PCBA

The opportunity also allows you to grow your knowledge within manufacturing as part of our development into future opportunities. Industrial Validation, manufacturing architecture and factory of the future principles are some of the work packages that provide stretched objectives for such growth.

Working with the Principal Engineer, you will be working on multiple projects, with the following key responsibilities:

  • Write and review manufacturing work instructions
  • Review and control design changes including Bill of Materials creation and maintenance

  • Perform and review PFMEAs
  • Develop tooling to aid the manufacturing process
