The Opportunity

An established and growing manufacturer within the medical device sector is seeking an experienced Manufacturing Engineer to join their team. This is a key role focused on supporting production and driving process improvements across the business.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) within the ERP system.
  • Ensure validated and recognised engineering methods are applied consistently across the manufacturing process.
  • Manage and implement engineering changes efficiently to meet production timelines (TAKT time) and customer requirements.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to boost productivity, reduce waste, and improve product quality.
  • Coordinate effective communication with key stakeholders throughout project phases and transitions.
  • Translate design data and specifications into clear, practical manufacturing instructions in line with customer and regulatory requirements.
  • Support production leadership in staff training, development, and achieving cycle time targets.
  • Create and maintain detailed work packages and conditions of supply for outsourced manufacturing activities.
  • Optimise assembly methods to enhance efficiency, reduce non-conformities, and improve product consistency.
  • Collaborate with production to implement visual controls, measurement tools, and support systems.
  • Review and approve new or modified design models and technical drawings.
  • Audit and maintain manufacturing engineering processes to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Assist in product audits, investigate non-conformances, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Identify training and development needs within the manufacturing engineering team via the Performance Development Review (PDR) process.
  • Represent the manufacturing engineering function during internal and external design reviews, ensuring timely completion of assigned actions.
  • Conduct vendor assessments to evaluate the technical capabilities of potential suppliers.

Candidate Requirements

HNC (or equivalent) qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.

Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing engineering environment.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interface with customers and suppliers.

Solid understanding of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement tools (e.g., 8 Wastes, Kaizen, 5S).

Proven track record of delivering process and production improvements.

Working knowledge of injection moulding processes, including material selection, cycle time estimation, and cost analysis.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Strong problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.

Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.

Full, clean UK driving licence.

Salary: £40,000 – £45,000 (depending on experience and qualifications)
