Job Title: Manual Machinist / Turner - Milling Machines

Location: Manchester

Hours: Monday-Thursday 08:00-16:30 Friday 08:00-15:45

Contract Type: Permanent, Full-Time

The Opportunity

Our client, a leading name in mechanical engineering and rotating machinery, is seeking a skilled Manual Machinist / Turner to join their growing team. This role is ideal for someone confident working with manual milling and turning machinery, producing high-quality components to tight tolerances.

Key Responsibilities

Operate manual lathes and milling machines to machine components to specification

Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical diagrams

Use precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, gauges) to ensure accuracy

Carry out component inspections and ensure work is to spec

Set up machinery, including tooling changes and material loading

Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with health and safety guidelines

Collaborate with the wider team to meet production schedules and solve machining challenges

What We're Looking For

Proven experience as a manual machinist and turner

Strong experience using milling machines and/or lathes (manual, not CNC)

Ability to work to tight tolerances and quality standards

Good knowledge of machine shop safety and best practices

Comfortable reading and interpreting technical drawings

Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team

Desirable (but not essential)

Apprenticeship, formal engineering qualification or at least 5 years' experience in a similar role

Experience in a similar role within a COMAH, manufacturing or engineering workshop

Familiarity with surface grinders or other traditional machining equipment
