Thrive Oldham is recruiting on behalf of our well-established client in the Torfaen area for a Manual Machinist.

Job Description

We are currently seeking a Machinist/Trainee Machinist to join our facility in South Wales. The primary responsibility of the Machinist will be to work as part of a team to process products through the Machine Shop, ensuring they are produced right first time and delivered to the customer in line with their expectations and requirements.

Principal Accountabilities:

• Work as part of a team to achieve departmental KPIs such as Right First Time, On Time In Full, and Productivity.
• Operate manual vertical turning lathes and CNC vertical and horizontal turning lathes following standard operating procedures.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings to ensure products conform to customer specifications.
• Set up tooling as required.
• Record key data daily, including production throughput, non-conformance notes, data records, and dimensional reports.
• Promote continuous improvement through daily TPM and 5S activities.

The successful candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• GCSE or equivalent in Maths and English.

• Good interpersonal skills, especially teamwork.

Additional advantageous skills and experience include:

• Experience in heavy manufacturing.
• Manual machining experience (manual and CNC).
• Ability to read and interpret 2D engineering drawings and instructions.
• Familiarity with machining special alloy materials.
• Experience in programming and Fannuc control systems.

Shift allowances and working hours:

• 10% shift allowance.
• Current shifts: 5.30-1.30 Mon to Thurs, 5.30-10.30 Fri; future shift pattern moving to 3 shifts.
