A leading company in the hygiene products sector is seeking a Manual Machinist to support its manufacturing operations. The ideal candidate will have relevant experience, a strong focus on problem-solving, and the ability to manage contractors effectively. This role offers a vibrant work environment with competitive salary and benefits, including a pension, private medical insurance, and various employee rewards.
Are you a manual machinist with experience operating conventional machine tools such as centre lathe, manual mill, pillar drill, etc., in a manufacturing environment? Are you passionate about managing customer expectations and problem solving? If so, our manufacturing site in Prudhoe, Northumberland, may hold your next career move. At Prudhoe, we produce toilet tissue and hand towels, both key essential health and hygiene products used every day. It is home to two paper machines, seven converting lines, a recycling plant, and an integrated distribution centre. Critical to us achieving large volume production at high speed is the reliability of all infrastructure on site.
Our site infrastructure team has a diverse remit. They manage all site infrastructure and facilities, contribute to external audits, and support our manufacturing teams with workshop-based support.
We have a vacancy in this team for an individual to join us and fill a role where no two days are the same. Across a typical working week, your objectives will include supporting the operations teams on site by manufacturing or modifying mechanical parts in our workshop facility, whilst supporting the department with the management of teams of multi-disciplined contractors. You will work as part of a team of site technicians who are collectively responsible for maintaining the entire site infrastructure.
We’re looking for people who embody our values, aren’t afraid to challenge, innovate, experiment, and move at a fast pace. We’re always looking for ways to improve our products and ourselves. If this is you, we’d love to talk.
Day to day, you will proactively work to solve problems; from managing specialist contractor resources on-site, to taking a hands-on approach to fix mechanically focused problems around the site and taking ownership of the engineering workshop.
You will work with the RST teams in the papermaking and converting departments to identify re-occurrence of regular mechanical issues by spotting opportunities to proactively adapt pieces of equipment and fix for good. This is a busy role focused on ensuring we maintain and improve equipment efficiency whilst remaining customer focused.
You will be a time-served Manual Machinist / Mechanical Technician, qualified to a minimum of NVQ Level 3 or equivalent. An ideal candidate will also have experience in managing contractors.
You will be customer focused with strong communication skills and have the ability and passion for managing customer expectations.
You will be a natural problem solver who is able to use their initiative to solve both immediate and longer-term problems. Time management and strong organisational skills are also key to success in this role.
It goes without saying that you will be a team player and have a strong regard for health and safety.
