Job summary

Jackie Kerr Recruitment Ltd client is seeking a Manual Machinist in Abingdon, UK to join a busy workshop. You will operate manual lathes and produce precision components from drawings, implementing turning, boring and finishing with various materials.

The role offers a 37-hour week with some overtime and benefits including a company pension, cycle to work scheme and free on-site parking.

Qualifications

• Must have previous machining experience.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings.
• Experience using manual lathes.
• Willing to learn larger machines such as Binns & Berry and a Horizontal Borer.
• Preferably time served apprenticeship with post-qualification experience.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently or in a team.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate manual lathes to produce precision components.
• Read drawings and ensure parts meet tolerances.
• Carry out turning, boring, trepanning, roughing and finishing operations.
• Work with stainless steel, alloys, brass, copper and plastics.
• Measure with basic maths and maintain equipment.

Job description

Our client is recruiting for a Manual Machinist to join their busy workshop! They are a major supplier of high specification engineering equipment and are looking for an experienced Manual Machinist to operate manual lathes and produce precision components.

Manual Machinist Roles and Responsibilities:

• Set up and operate manual lathes to produce precision components to specification
• Produce parts to tight tolerances, working from engineering drawings and blueprints
• Carry out turning, boring, trepanning, roughing and finishing operations
• Work with Stainless Steel, alloys, brass, copper and plastics
• Use hand tools and basic maths skills for measurements and adjustments
• Carry out routine maintenance on machinery and tools
• Work alongside team members within fabrication and assembly processes
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment

The Ideal Manual Machinist:

• Previous machining experience
• Good understanding of engineering drawings
• Experience using manual lathes
• Be willing to learn to use larger machines, ideally including Binns & Berry and a Horizontal Borer
• Preferably be a time served apprentice with a couple of years' post-apprenticeship experience
• Be self-motivated, enthusiastic and able to work efficiently both independently and as part of a team

Manual Machinist Working Hours and Benefits:

• 37-hour working week, with occasional overtime depending on customer requirements
• Monday - Thursday: 07:30 - 16:00 or 08:00 - 16:30
• Friday: 07:30 - 12:30 or 08:00 - 13:00
• £16.00 - £20.00 per hour, depending on experience
