Job summary

Manpower UK is seeking a Skilled Machinist in Abingdon for a permanent, full-time role. You will operate manual lathes to produce precision components, read engineering drawings, and perform turning, boring and finishing operations.

The ideal candidate will have a time-served apprenticeship and at least 3 years machining experience, with the ability to work alone or in a small team. Willingness to learn larger machines, including horizontal borers, is essential; occasional overtime may be

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship preferred.
• Minimum 3 years machining experience.
• Strong understanding of engineering drawings.
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, reliable.
• Able to work efficiently alone and collaboratively.
• Willing to learn and operate larger workshop machines.
• Must attend Abingdon site for interview and trade test.

Responsibilities

• Manual lathe machining to produce precision components to tight tolerances.
• Reading engineering drawings and working accurately to specification.
• Performing turning, boring, trepanning, roughing and finishing operations.
• Working with stainless steel, alloys, brass, copper and plastics.
• Routine maintenance of machinery and tools.
• Supporting wider fabrication and assembly tasks.
• Maintaining a safe, clean, organised work environment.
• Working independently and as part of a small, skilled team.
