Mandarin Speaking First Engineer for MSC Cruises

Description
  • As a 1st Engineer Officer, you will be a cornerstone in ensuring our vessel operates seamlessly and safely.
  • Reporting directly to the Chief Engineer and Staff Engineer, you will lead the engine watch-keeping team, ensuring daily maintenance and operational excellence across all engineering and technical systems onboard.
  • Your expertise will enable our guests to enjoy a safe and smooth journey on a state-of-the‑art cruise vessel, providing an unforgettable travel experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • By mutual arrangement with the Staff Engineer, to be on board the vessel at any time the Staff Engineer is absent from the ship.
  • Be Directly responsible toward the Staff Engineer for each work performed in the engine room
  • Assign maintenance and repair duties to his/her dependent personnel and actively supervise in any overhaul and repair work.
  • Inspect all assigned work in progress, and on completion, assure that manpower is utilized to the fullest extent, that work is executed properly in accordance with acceptable standards and that no wastage of materials occurs and upkeep of the department.
  • During his watch He/She has to control the proper disposals of all refuse, rags etc. to avoid fire and other hazards during and after work.
  • To train personnel assigned to his engine watch (particularly new personnel) to follow safe working practices, ensuring that functions are fully recognized by each man and that work done and the manner of performance conforms to established standards. Supervises and works in close cooperation with the 2nd and 3rd engineers, engine cadet and engine ratings, being also responsible for their on‑the‑job training, thus ensuring safe working conditions
  • To attend when invited by the Master and when duty permits all cocktail parties and social and entertaining activities and functions.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Mandatory:

  • STCW Certificate of Competency III/2
  • Experience on board vessels of at least 90,000 Gross Tonnage • High Voltage and Crowd & Crisis courses (to be completed if not already held)

Preferred:

  • Experience with Diesel Electric Wärtsilä 4-stroke engines, as well as Pod, Azipod, and A.W.T. Scrubber systems
  • ERM and Automation courses
