Job summary

GCHQ invites applicants to join the Mandarin Language Talent Programme (11 weeks) in Cheltenham or Manchester, starting September 2027. The programme combines training with hands-on operational exposure to language analysis, culminating in a potential full-time role as a Mandarin Language Specialist.

Applicants should have Mandarin at 2:2 level or above and be prepared to develop new technical language skills. Successful candidates may advance to a permanent position after the programme ends.

Qualifications

• Mandarin degree (2:2 or above) in Mandarin.
• Willingness to develop technical language skills.

Responsibilities

• Translate, interpret and contextualise Mandarin content as part of language work.
• Attend dedicated training and gain exposure to real operations.
• Analyse Mandarin text and audio content using language tools to produce reports.
