Qualifications

  • Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • MRICS or CICES accreditation preferred.
  • Experience on civil engineering schemes or safety-critical sectors (aviation, rail, highways).
  • Ability to resolve commercial disputes and negotiate favourable outcomes.
  • Proficient with cost estimation techniques and Microsoft Office.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Evidence of providing specialist Quantity Surveying advice to stakeholders and senior teams.
  • Proven track record of leading a team to achieve commercial objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Commercial Manager in delivering services effectively and consistently.
  • Manage commercial and financial aspects to ensure projects stay within budget and standards.
  • Oversee cost management, contract administration, and procurement, with mentorship to juniors.
  • Prepare financial reports, cost reconciliations and progress updates for stakeholders; identify and mitigate commercial risks.
  • Participate in training and mentoring, including for professional qualifications.
  • Promote contractual and commercial governance and contribute to work-winning, resource planning, and pre-contract collaboration.

Managing Quantity Surveyor, East Midlands

Location: East Midlands

Scope of Work: A senior leadership role for a motivated and experienced MQS delivering essential infrastructure in a safety-first, client and customer centric environment.

Are you an experienced Quantity Surveying professional with experience in delivering major infrastructure upgrade projects?

Have you ambitions to work on significant, large-scale projects?

Turner Lovell is recruiting a Managing Quantity Surveyor leading UK business that has responsibility for managing reactive and planned maintenance, and upgrade the existing infrastructure in and around Heathrow Airport. You will be working with a team who deliver a mix of civil engineering and building schemes through our existing suite of contracts with clients operating across a diverse group of sectors.

As a Managing QS you will:

  • Support the Commercial Manager in delivering services effectively and consistently.
  • Manage the commercial and financial aspects of the projects, ensuring they are completed within budget and to the required standards.
  • Oversee cost management, contract administration, and procurement, while also providing guidance to junior surveyors.
  • Be involved in significant interaction with clients, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle; prepare financial reports, including cost reconciliations and progress reports, to keep stakeholders informed of project performance; identifying and mitigating commercial risks associated with the project, such as cost overruns or delays.
  • Participate and deliver structured training and mentoring, especially for those pursuing professional qualifications.
  • Promote a strong culture of contractual and commercial awareness, ensuring compliance with group procedures and governance. This includes active involvement in the work-winning process, resource planning, and collaboration with pre-contract teams.

The ideal profile is someone who has:

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field. MRICS or CICES accreditation is preferred
  • Experience working on civil engineering schemes, or other safety-critical sectors such as aviation, rail or highways
  • The ability to resolve commercial disputes and negotiate favourable outcomes
  • Proficient with cost estimation techniques and in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of software
  • Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Evidence of providing specialist Quantity Surveying technical advice and support to stakeholders, team members and across other disciplines including large and complex projects at a senior level
  • A proven track record with managing a team to achieve commercial objectives in a timely manner.
