Summary
A Principal Contractor, operating throughout England and Wales, delivering multi-disciplinary buildings and civil engineering projects for Network Rail, has an opportunity for a Managing Quantity Surveyor who will be responsible for delivering high-value works and structures within the Rail sector.
As a Managing Quantity Surveyor, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
- Commercial responsibility for the company portfolio of works, managing reactive work, including coverage of the Wigan Office as appropriate.
- Manage train and support a dedicated commercial team, conducting regular job chats, PDRs, and staff development through PDPs.
- Provide advice to the commercial team/project staff on commercial and contractual matters, including reviewing and drafting correspondence.
- Supply relevant commercial information/reports to the Commercial Manager or Commercial Director for review at specified intervals.
- Manage and produce formal reports for the quarterly commercial board report and Construction Board.
- Monitor contract compliance against statutory requirements.
- Recruit in line with company strategy.
- Develop client relationships, aiming for continuous improvement in customer satisfaction. Maintain and establish regular contact/meetings with clients.
- Assist Directors in developing company strategies.
- Attend all relevant internal/external commercial meetings.
- Oversee/monitor contract costs against budgets.
- Develop and monitor cost and financial reporting systems. Prepare and submit cash flow forecasts.
- Promote and comply with the company safety policy.
- Ensure client payments and cash collections are in accordance with contract conditions.
- Monitor the change process and provide support when needed.
- Identify potential commercial/financial risks and opportunities, evaluating options to mitigate or capitalize on them.
- Oversee and monitor the production, submission, and agreement of final accounts per contractual requirements, meeting all client KPIs.
- Manage procedures for procurement, negotiation, and placement of sub-contract and supplier orders with the supply chain.
- Oversee procedures for certification of contract payments/variations and settling final accounts with sub-contractors.
- Perform any other duties as reasonably required.
Seeking a candidate with:
- Strong quantity surveying experience working on reactive frameworks, ideally within the rail sector.
- Demonstrable ability to lead a team.
- Experience working within a contracting environment.
