Job Description:

Managing Quantity Surveyor

Location: Flexible (with occasional travel to UK sites and monthly meetings at a central office)

Contract Type: Permanent | Full-Time

Sector: Infrastructure / Utilities / Energy

Contract Type: NEC4 (Options C & E)

About the Organisation

Our client is a well-established international engineering and industrial services provider with a strong presence in regulated sectors such as energy, utilities, and complex process environments. With thousands of employees and an expanding portfolio, they are involved in delivering multi-disciplinary engineering and construction projects that support the UK’s critical national infrastructure.

As part of a nationally significant upgrade programme, they are delivering a framework of infrastructure projects designed to enhance the security and resilience of key energy assets. These long-term programmes are structured under NEC4 contracts and form part of a major strategic investment in the UK’s energy future.

The Opportunity

We’re recruiting for an experienced Managing Quantity Surveyor (MQS) to take ownership of the commercial delivery of three large-scale energy infrastructure upgrade projects. These projects are part of a national programme focused on modernising critical infrastructure across multiple UK sites.

You will be a senior figure in the commercial function, responsible for ensuring best-practice contract administration, commercial governance, and supplier performance. The role provides the chance to lead commercial teams across a diverse project portfolio, contribute to strategic decisions, and shape the commercial direction of major programmes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide full lifecycle commercial leadership across multiple infrastructure projects (FEED to close-out).
  • Manage cost control, forecasting, and financial reporting using SAP and other internal tools.
  • Ensure consistent and compliant NEC4 contract management, including EWN, CE, and change procedures.
  • Liaise with client-side representatives to certify payment applications, agree variations, and manage commercial risk.
  • Mentor and support Quantity Surveyors and Senior QSs, providing guidance across multiple locations.
  • Work closely with change managers and supply chain leads to commercially manage variations, reprogramming, and performance.
  • Maintain strong commercial records and audit trails in line with governance standards.
  • Participate in monthly project board meetings and commercial reviews.
  • Support strategic decision-making on procurement, buildability, and subcontractor engagement.

Project Context

  • Scope includes civil, electrical, and fabrication work to secure key infrastructure assets.
  • Projects are located across England / Wales and are at different stages of the design lifecycle
  • Projects involve operating within live environments and require careful management of seasonal construction windows.
  • Sites vary in complexity, with some having limited legacy data, creating a need for proactive change and variation management.

Experience & Qualifications

  • 7–10+ years’ commercial experience, ideally working on NEC3/4 projects (Options C & E preferred).
  • Strong track record delivering large-scale infrastructure, utilities, or industrial programmes.
  • Skilled in cost forecasting, change management, subcontractor engagement, and contract compliance.
  • Confident supporting and mentoring commercial teams in a multi-project environment.
  • Familiarity with contract management platforms and enterprise systems.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Degree-qualified in Quantity Surveying or equivalent; professional accreditation (e.g. MRICS) desirable.

What’s on Offer

  • Join a high-performing and growing commercial team working on nationally important energy projects.
  • Long-term job security on a framework with significant future pipeline.
  • Flexible working model with minimal office requirements and autonomy in how you manage your work.
  • Competitive salary and benefits, with clear career development opportunities.
