We are looking for a Managing Quantity Surveyor to join our growing and fast-paced Commercial team.
What you'll do
You will join a team of around 50 Quantity Surveyors and Estimators, responsible for the commercial delivery of approximately £200m of projects annually within the AMP8 Capital Delivery area.
You will manage a team of Quantity Surveyors to deliver a programme valued at approximately £25 to £50 million per year, reporting directly to the Head of Commercial.
Projects include process, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering works under NEC Contracting arrangements, with project values ranging from £1m to £15m.
As the Managing Quantity Surveyor, you will oversee commercial management and provide accurate reporting of all commercial information required by the Construction Management team and other company departments.
Your responsibilities include:
- Managing a team of up to six Quantity Surveyors, including trainees and administrative staff
- Controlling all commercial activities for the business unit, ensuring quality and compliance
- Preparing and presenting regular commercial reports such as order book, budget, CVR reports, and contractor meetings
- Managing procurement, target setting, forecasting, change management, risk, payments, and final accounts, supporting the Estimating team as needed
- Managing the supply chain, including consultants and contractors, to deliver the portfolio
- Engaging with the Construction Commercial team, project managers, engineers, and estimators, and attending financial meetings with senior staff
- Working to financial targets and deadlines, understanding major programs, and ensuring value for money
- Resource planning, staff development, succession planning, and recruitment
- Participating in cross-departmental commercial strategies and initiatives
The role covers our region, including Bristol, Salisbury, Bournemouth, Bridgwater, and surrounding areas.
What you'll need
You should have relevant quantity surveying and management experience. Experience in water or utility industries is not required.
Additionally, you will:
- Preferably have experience with NEC Contracts, including Professional Services and Engineering & Construction Contracts (Options A and C)
- Preferably have experience managing partnering arrangements
- Possess excellent leadership, communication, and presentation skills
- Be able to build professional relationships
- Be a team player
- Hold a degree in quantity surveying or a related qualification, or equivalent industry experience
- Be detail-oriented, self-motivated, problem-solving, and driven to succeed
- Have a valid driving license, as travel to sites is required
