Purpose: The Managing Director, SubConnect is responsible for R&D, Testing, Training, Sales, and Supply Chain Management for the Universal Joint (UJ) and Interconnectivity solutions and products. The role has full P&L responsibility and includes managing sales activities, sites, and overseeing the preparation, procurement, inventory, testing, and quality control of all products and services within this business unit.
The role covers activities across the following locations:
- Chelmsford: Focus on R&D, Training, Testing, and Sales functions.
- Havant: Encompasses Purchasing, Assembly, Integration, Testing (AIT), Quality Control and Assurance, and Dispatch operations.
Key Deliverables:
- Manage and lead the SubConnect Sales team to maximize revenue and margin for UJ and related products by engaging with specific Customers and Tier 1 suppliers. Manage sales forecasts, department budgets, and maintain accurate records and invoicing for projects.
- Oversee internal and external HSE, Quality, and Risk Management systems, ensuring compliance with audit requirements.
- Implement and negotiate Long Term Supply Agreements (LTSA) to ensure timely customer deliveries. Establish strong supplier relationships, maintain traceability, and control costs and quality within the supply chain. Ensure supplier selection aligns with GMSL procedures and standards. Maintain rigorous stock management.
- Ensure Havant site complies with CAA “Known Consignor” recognition. Collaborate with internal stakeholders across departments to align objectives and streamline processes.
- Work with Chelmsford Managers to ensure design drawings and specifications are accurate, and NPI processes are followed for smooth transition from design to production and delivery.
- Develop a “one system” approach within the company to reduce duplication and inefficiencies.
- Oversee the transition from Sage to IFS systems, working closely with the transition team.
Requirements:
- MBA or equivalent qualification.
- Strong Mechanical and Electrical Engineering background.
- Extensive experience in supply chain and manufacturing management.
- Proficiency in stock management and control, familiar with MRP systems like SAGE or IFS.
- Expertise in budgeting, financial management, and contracts.
- Experience with quality control and assurance systems.
- Knowledge of IT infrastructure requirements.
- Proven ability to manage teams across multiple locations.
- Excellent communication, report writing, and negotiation skills.

- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
