A quick look at the role

As a Managing Director, you will provide strategic business leadership for Hamilton Waste Management, fostering profitable and sustainable growth while ensuring compliance with operational governance, legislation, and regulations. You will build a high-performance, safety-first culture, drive employee engagement, and ensure the consistent adoption of the Biffa I&C commercial approach based on best practices.

Your core responsibilities

  • Ensure health and safety within Hamilton, maintaining up-to-date risk assessments and operating practices across the division.
  • Develop the Hamilton business strategy and contribute to the 5-year business plan, focusing on generating operating profit and cash flow aligned with targets.
  • As a member of the C&D division leadership team, contribute to the group’s business strategy, annual plans, and oversee corporate governance, compliance, and approval of key projects and policies.
  • Identify cross-group opportunities to enhance customer propositions and retention.
  • Create the annual Hamilton Business Plan (BBP), including objectives and KPIs, and cascade these to ensure aligned activity within Hamilton and the broader division.
  • Oversee financial performance, client management, and service delivery across the customer base.
  • Develop and implement a roadmap for integrating acquired businesses to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Ensure operational efficiency across Hamilton, promoting a unified Biffa approach and operational excellence.
  • Lead recruitment, development, and succession planning within the Hamilton leadership team to ensure the right skills and capabilities are in place for the short and long term.

Our essential requirements

  • At least 5 years of proven leadership experience in a senior role.
  • Successful track record in leading organizational transformation and growth.
  • Experience in the waste industry and knowledge of waste and recycling legislation.
  • Strong skills in financial planning, budgeting, and business strategy.
  • Strategic thinker with excellent analytical skills and commercial acumen.
