Job description

Central are proud to be partnering with a UK PLC operating in the sustainable built environment sector. With a number of business units supporting different facets of the sector, they are now seeking a dynamic MD for one of their businesses, capable of not only taking the business forward post acquisition but also forming a strategic part of the broader group management team.

Following a recent organisational realignment, the business are entering a new phase of strategic growth and transformation — and at the heart of this journey is the people strategy. A service led organisation with manufacturing, they work with installers, builder and end users with a number if procured and manufacturer products in the premium space.

In the role you will be responsible for shaping service strategy, build and lead a newly structured management team and deliver commercial success in existing and emerging markets. The MD will set the strategic direction, deliver profitable growth, enhance the customer experience, and ensure operational excellence across all parts of the business.

Core areas of responsibility

Strategic Leadership

· Define and implement a winning market proposition for both B2B and B2C segments.

· Lead the service model excellence.

· Identify and develop natural product and service extensions from core offerings.

· Develop and deliver the three-year business plan in alignment with the business unit strategy.

· Thinks strategically and can turn a strategy into a clear and compelling plan, bringing people with them.

Commercial & Operational Delivery

· Drive immediate profitability improvements through pricing strategy, margin control, and efficiency measures.

· Oversee sales growth across markets and explore new market opportunities maximising the wider Group and Business Unit opportunities.

· Champion customer journey excellence and create a best-in-class service experience.

· Ensure seamless coordination between manufacturing, distribution, and service delivery teams.

Culture & People Leadership

· Build a unified, purpose driven leadership team.

· Foster a “one team, one purpose” culture that promotes accountability, collaboration, and trust.

· Develop succession plans, talent pipelines, and leadership capability at all levels.

Innovation & Market Positioning

· Leverage the organisations technical expertise to bring new services and technology to market.

· Stay at the forefront of environmental and legislative trends affecting building services.

· Act as a brand ambassador within the Group, industry bodies, and key stakeholder networks.

Capabilities required

You are likely a proven service-led business leader who has transformed organisations, built high-performing teams, and delivered sustainable growth. You understand both the operational realities and the strategic levers in a technical product-service environment.

Essential Experience:

· P&L leadership in a technical service or manufacturing environment.

· Proven track record of service business growth, sector experience beneficial but not essential.

· Strong commercial acumen and pricing strategy experience.

· Deep understanding of the customer journey and CRM supported sales/marketing.

· Track record in cultural transformation and employee engagement.

· Experience within group or divisional structures.

Desirable:

· Change management experience – turnaround experience

· Background in Lean manufacturing and process improvement.

· Strategic and visionary but grounded in delivery.

Based in the Devon area with travel across the UK within Group.
