Job Summary
Primary responsibilities include tax return preparation/compliance, preparation of tax accounting/reporting under US GAAP, review of tax provision for statutory accounts. Assists Sr. International Tax Managers with tax audits and litigation, tax support for drilling contracts, tax support for JV’s, management of junior Tax professionals, and support and guidance of non-income tax matters. Responsibilities will cover only a geographical section of the world.
Job Description
Key Roles & Responsibilities
- Analysis and preparation of detailed US GAAP tax accounting, both income statement and balance sheet, under ASC 740 on a quarterly and annual basis, including the calculation, direction and review of analysis of uncertain tax positions, valuation allowances, balance sheet classification and presentation, and deferred taxes. Prepares/reviews complex tax provision calculations. Prepare/reviews return to provision reconciliations.
- From time to time and with guidance from Sr. International Tax Manager, will contribute to developing, implementing and maintaining legal entity and local operating company structures as well as risk mitigation measures. Contributes to analysis and maintenance of local country restructurings, material transactions, court decisions and rulings, global tax developments, tax legislation and tax treaties. Contributes to analysis of key areas including capital structure, cash extraction, rig leasing, rig transfer, transfer pricing, local content requirements, permanent establishment, substance, corporate governance and proprietary tax rulings.
- From time to time and with guidance from Sr. International Tax Manager, will contribute successfully, efficiently and timely managing tax audits, tax disputes, and tax litigation, including any penalties and interest.
- From time to time and with guidance from Sr. International Tax Manager, will contribute to development of advice to Marketing on key provisions and terms in drilling contracts, including legal entity structure, intercompany requirements and transactions, tax rate considerations in determining suitable day rate in the contract, tax protection, change in locale, withholding tax rate, tax treaty protection and local law requirements.
- On a day-to-day basis, manages oversees local corporate income tax compliance process, including the timely and accurate payment of income taxes, deposits and withholding taxes as well filing corporate income tax returns.
- Assists with timely management and payment of VAT, Goods and Services tax, Service tax, withholding tax plus other non-income tax obligations (extends to social taxes in some countries), providing technical guidance as required on matters such as personal income taxes of local employees and rig crews.
Education
- Minimum Requirements: BS/BA/BBA in Accounting. Certified as CPA, CA, JD or equivalent
- Preferred: Master's Degree in Tax
Experience
- Strong knowledge of Accounting systems, US GAAP, and fundamentals of the drilling business
- Minimum 5+ years of tax or finance experience
- Proven capabilities on international tax provision calculations, transfer pricing, tax treaties, foreign tax credits, contracts, and commercial transactions desired
Skills
- Strong knowledge of complicated international tax provisions, technical tax knowledge on transfer pricing, tax treaties, foreign tax credits, U.S. GAAP, ASC 740, FAS 5, APB 23, and effective tax rate
- Must have strong communication skills.
