Job description

We are seeking a hands-on leader to provide leadership and implement quality & EHSS systems and strategy for our innovative world-class brewery based in Surrey, B.C. The Manager, Quality & EHSS will develop and implement local quality & EHSS programs to support our PSQCC (People, Safety, Quality, Customer Service, Cost) KPI agenda. You will be responsible for the quality and safety of our products (HACCP, GMP, GLP, Housekeeping) and the safety of our team members and guests. Responsibilities include financial management of annual EHSS and laboratory budget, laboratory operational performance, reliability of analyses, laboratory instrument maintenance and calibration, plant safety and environmental compliance and reporting.

What You Will Do:

  1. Create department vision and strategic direction aligned with the plant and corporate strategy for Quality & EHSS at Central City brewery.
  2. Cascade, monitor, and measure strategically aligned objectives for the Quality & EHSS team.
  3. Perform benchmarking, analysis, target setting, and KPI reporting.
  4. Ensure implementation and verification of safety, quality, food safety, GMP, GLP, HACCP, environment & security standards across the brewery.
  5. Represent brewery quality for stakeholders.
  6. Identify and implement process improvements.
  7. Validate calibration and accuracy of quality measurement instruments.
  8. Support QA to meet customer service goals.
  9. Manage safety and quality compliance reporting.
  10. Monitor and report on product quality and regulatory compliance in Chemistry, Microbiology, Sensory.
  11. Manage non-conforming product holds and develop rework criteria.
  12. Build and lead a cross-functional team, providing training and oversight.
  13. Mentor personnel on quality and safety, providing feedback and coaching.
  14. Evaluate talent, foster inclusiveness, trust, and understanding.
  15. Lead development of a robust Quality and Food Safety Culture.

What You Have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology, or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in quality/food safety in brewing.
  • HACCP and/or PCQI Certifications.
  • 5+ years in high-speed beverage manufacturing and packaging.
  • Expertise in brewing, GMP, BRCGS, JSA, HACCP.
  • Laboratory instrumentation experience (GC, GCMS, HPLC, etc.).
  • Knowledge of federal alcohol regulations.
  • Proven leadership and team development skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and make quick decisions.
  • Skills in risk management, business systems, statistical controls.
  • Leadership, strategic influence, results orientation.
  • Ability to work across functions and geographies.
  • Proficiency with computers and business applications.
