To ensure safe, high-quality and environmentally compliant development and operation of BESS projects. To provide comprehensive QHSE guidance and support (technical and managerial) across the entire project lifecycle, from initial development to ongoing operations. Help to mitigate Global Offshore Wind & UK liabilities for UK and international asset portfolio.
Contribution to the Global Offshore Wind & UK strategy and annual objectives:
- Ensure Global Offshore Wind & UK scope is delivered in alignment with MASDAR QHSE policies, practices and procedures, through ongoing collaboration, provide relevant guidance and advice.
- Lead the development and implementation of a best-in-class Health, Safety, Environmental and Quality systems and culture for the Battery Storage organization, including, within a reasonable timeline, the implementation of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 9001.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure QHSE compliance with best practices and legal requirements, including legal and risk registers, and CDM.
- Prepare QHSE reports and present them at various levels.
- Lead qualification of suppliers and contractors, undertake QHSE DD audits, risk assessments, and review EPC HSE and applicable plans.
- Establish and manage QHSE framework service agreements with suppliers.
- Ensure QHSE legal clauses and technical requirements in documents (EPC, O&M, Equipment Supply) are relevant, thorough, and up-to-date, including QAA, CQR, and CDM.
- Conduct site inspections of projects under construction and organize external audits.
- Coordinate quality control during development and construction cycles: manufacturing, pre-shipment, sampling, laboratory tests, inspections, supply chain audits.
- Ensure thorough and diligent investigation of QHSE incidents and accidents.
- Prepare NCRs with corrective actions and follow-up, manage claim data evaluation and reporting.
- Run workshops and reviews with suppliers, contractors, and development partners, including monthly reports.
- Identify QHSE training needs, direct training programs, and ensure employees' training is current.
- Establish annual QHSE objectives and KPIs, review with management.
- Support QHSE budget planning and monitor expenditure.
- Drive continuous improvement of the QHSE Management System.
- Review QHSE policies and documents periodically.
- Develop QHSE risk management standards, maintain RAM, and plan hazard identification and risk assessments for new projects.
- Facilitate QHSE Committee meetings and oversee action completion.
- Plan and coordinate audits and inspections to ensure compliance and report on faults.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a QHSE discipline, preferably in Electrical Engineering.
- NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management or equivalent (highly desirable).
- IOSH Managing Safely or similar (highly desirable).
- Training in ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001.
- Chartered membership in a recognized QHSE organization is an advantage.
Experience:
- At least 5 years in a QHSE role within renewable energy, preferably with battery storage.
- Proven experience developing and maintaining QHSE management systems.
- Ability to identify, assess, and mitigate QHSE risks in BESS projects.
- Experience conducting QHSE audits and inspections.
- Knowledge of UK HSE legislation and standards related to BESS.
- Understanding of international QHSE standards is advantageous.
- Experience in multicultural and diverse environments is a plus.
