Daikin Applied is hiring a HVAC Test Laboratory Manager to support our continued growth. The Manager will manage all activities of our Applied Development Center to test HVAC equipment and components, products, and systems by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.



Location: Plymouth, MN - On-site



What you will do:




  • Coordinates the test and model shop schedule, procedures, and results.

  • Oversees use of computer software and hardware to conduct tests on mechanical products and systems.

  • Maintains Technical Center files and records. Suggests innovative ideas to improve data acquisition.

  • Confer with engineering and technical personnel to resolve testing problems such as product or system malfunctions, incomplete test data and data interpretation.

  • Staffs, trains and supervises Engineering Technicians and Model Shop personnel. Maintains a competent and motivated staff to carry out departmental duties.

  • Establishes safety procedures, reviews work processes for ergonomic impact, enforces Personal. Protective Equipment requirements and maintains equipment and testing facility in accordance with OSHA standards.

  • Directs and coordinates activities concerned with procurement, installation, and calibration of instruments, equipment, and control devices required to perform product tests or develop product models.

  • Oversees maintenance of the Technical Center facility and equipment. Troubleshoots malfunctioning equipment and coordinates repairs as needed. Establishes schedule for regular preventive maintenance.

  • Manages Technical Center budget, including capital expenditures.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree with a focus in engineering, scientific or technical and 5+ years of engineering, product testing / development or direct experience leading a commercial HVAC team.

  • A Technical degree and 10+ years of engineering, product testing / development or direct experience leading a commercial HVAC team will also be considered.

  • 3+ years of management experience with proven success coaching and developing high performing teams.

  • Proficient MS Office skills (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word).

  • Knowledge and demonstrated use of Visual Management, Lean and Six Sigma methodologies.

  • Work sponsorship is not available for this position


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • At least 4+ years of direct experience in a product testing or an R&D lab; Familiar with test equipment, laboratory testing, workflow processes and quality systems.

  • HVAC certification and direct work experience with HVAC and Chiller Systems.

  • Experience with industry standards: UL-60335-2-40, ASHRAE 90.1.

  • 3+ years supervision of activities related to fork truck, man lift, refrigerant operations.

  • Fork truck training/license, man lift training/license, Universal card, R410a card.

  • Experience working on and servicing air- and water-cooled chillers.

The typical annual base salary for this position ranges from 90,000- $140,000 + variable bonus in Plymouth, MN. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
