Role

The Procurement Manager will lead strategic and operational procurement activities across direct and indirect categories, with a focus on internal development, external manufacturing, raw materials, and critical services that support our gene-editing programs. This role partners cross-functionally with Supply Chain, Quality, Finance, Research, Technical Development, and Clinical Operations to ensure compliant, cost-effective, and reliable sourcing. The role requires a balance of strategic supplier management, hands-on execution in NetSuite, and the ability to influence stakeholders in a fast-paced, science-driven environment.

Responsibilities
  • Develop category strategies for direct procurement (e.g., CDMO services, raw materials, plasmids, mRNA, LNP lipids) and indirect procurement (e.g., IT, lab services, facilities, professional services).
  • Negotiate supplier agreements, including MSAs, SOWs, pricing, payment terms, and service levels, ensuring alignment with Editas’ business and financial objectives.
  • Partner with Legal, Finance, and Quality to structure agreements that balance risk, cost, and compliance.
  • Oversee day-to-day procurement processes in NetSuite, including requisition approvals, PO issuance, supplier onboarding, and invoice reconciliation.
  • Implement and enforce approval workflows for direct vs. indirect procurement in collaboration with Finance and Supply Chain leadership.
  • Track and report key procurement metrics, including spend by category, supplier performance, and cost-savings initiatives.
  • Lead procurement for critical CDMO and CRO relationships, partnering with Technical Development and Supply Chain to monitor performance, resolve issues, and drive accountability.
  • Establish supplier KPIs and conduct business reviews with strategic vendors.
  • Support risk-mitigation strategies, including dual sourcing, inventory planning, and contract protections.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop procurement staff, fostering a high-performance and collaborative culture.
  • Partner with Finance on budget planning, accruals, and forecasting to lengthen Editas’ cash runway.
  • Act as procurement subject-matter expert in cross-functional meetings, influencing without authority and ensuring alignment with corporate priorities.
Requirements

The Ideal Transcript: Accountability: Owns outcomes and delivers on commitments. Influence Without Authority: Builds trust and alignment across functions. Strategic Thinking: Balances immediate needs with long-term supplier partnerships. Resilience: Adapts quickly in a dynamic, high-growth biotech environment. Collaboration: Works cross-functionally to achieve corporate goals.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Finance, or related field.
  • 7–10+ years of progressive procurement experience, with at least 3 years in life sciences (biotech, pharma, or CDMO environment).
  • Strong knowledge of direct procurement in a GMP/regulatory environment.
  • Experience with contract negotiation, supplier management, and cost-savings initiatives.
  • ERP experience (Oracle/NetSuite strongly).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

Fundamentals That Set You Apart:

  • Experience with gene-editing, cell therapy, or advanced modalities supply chains.
  • Demonstrated success in building procurement processes in a high-growth biotech.
