We are looking for a manager to lead the Office of the Chief Engineer within the Strategic Energy Planning (SEP) directorate. In this role, you will support the NESO Chief Engineer, working with technical leads across the business and industry to learn and drive engineering best practices.
Your team will consist of engineering experts from various disciplines. You and your team will be valued as a ‘critical friend’, providing impartial insight and feedback on critical engineering processes and decisions.
You will lead NESO’s international interactions related to energy system engineering, building a network of contacts to share insights, innovations, and best practices. Since 2024, NESO’s engineering scope has expanded to include natural gas, hydrogen, and other whole energy system interactions.
This role can be based in Wokingham or Warwick with hybrid working arrangements.
Ideal candidates will have a strong understanding of energy system operations, experience in engineering decision processes, team leadership skills, and excellent communication and relationship-building abilities. Relevant experience includes working with transmission/distribution networks, whole energy systems, and familiarity with industry standards (e.g., IET, IEEE, IGEM). A track record of establishing new functions is also valued.
Salary: £66,000 - £78,000 plus up to 15% performance bonus, 28 days leave, and a contributory pension scheme with company matching up to 12%.
