We are looking for a manager to lead the Office of the Chief Engineer within the Strategic Energy Planning (SEP) directorate. In this role, you will support the NESO Chief Engineer, working with technical leads across the business and industry to learn and drive engineering best practices.

Your team will consist of engineering experts from various disciplines. You and your team will be valued as a ‘critical friend’, providing impartial insight and feedback on critical engineering processes and decisions.

You will lead NESO’s international interactions related to energy system engineering, building a network of contacts to share insights, innovations, and best practices. Since 2024, NESO’s engineering scope has expanded to include natural gas, hydrogen, and other whole energy system interactions.

This role can be based in Wokingham or Warwick with hybrid working arrangements.

  4. Promoting NESO as a strong engineering organization and building its engineering credibility.

  9. Managing international engineering relationships to support research and technical priorities.
  10. Ensuring consistency in technical codes and standards development.
  11. Collaborating with UK engineering universities to influence research and academic programs.
  12. Taking a whole energy system view on engineering challenges.
  13. Engaging with manufacturers, software vendors, and other technical organizations.
  14. Being an active member of the SEP leadership team.
  15. Developing team members for performance and career growth.
