Job description

Job Opportunity: Herd Manager for Small Dairy Farm in Sussex

We are seeking a dedicated Herd Manager for a small, multicultural dairy herd in Sussex. The role involves overseeing daily farm operations and ensuring the health and productivity of the herd.

Responsibilities:
  • Record keeping and data management
  • Bull selection and breeding management
  • Fencing, calving, castration, de-horning, and tagging
  • Artificial Insemination (AI) and foot trimming
  • Grassland management and tractor operation (experience with modern tractors and machinery preferred)
Farm Facilities:
  • Small parlour (6 sides), suitable for twice daily milking
  • Farm buildings are aging but functional
  • Herd size: up to 60 cows, with an average lactation of 6,500 liters; focus on quality over quantity
Accommodation and Location:

On-site accommodation is provided: a large, double-glazed, centrally heated 2-bedroom mobile home on a new site within the farm. Good mobile network coverage available.

Opportunity for partner to work on the farm, adding value to the milk. Located approximately 1 mile from local shops and amenities, with good local schools accessible via bus route.
