Job description

The Information Systems team at Orbis International seeks an experienced professional to lead software evaluation, development, and deployment for global programs. This strategic, technical, and collaborative role suits someone who has led tech projects, is passionate about global health, and thrives in a mission-driven, multicultural setting.

Orbis is an international nonprofit delivering sight-saving programs in over 200 countries and territories worldwide so that individuals, families, and communities can thrive. Currently, around 1 billion people across the globe live with completely avoidable blindness and vision loss. For over four decades, Orbis has been tackling this challenge by building strong and sustainable eye care systems that leave a lasting legacy of vision. Orbis runs dedicated country programs in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Latin America; develops and implements innovative training and technology, including an award-winning telemedicine and e-learning platform, Cybersight; and operates the world’s first and only Flying Eye Hospital, a fully accredited ophthalmic teaching hospital on board an MD-10 aircraft.

BACKGROUND

The Information Systems team at Orbis International is seeking an experienced technology professional to lead the evaluation, development, and deployment of software applications across our global programs. This role blends the responsibilities of a Project Manager and a Product Manager, requiring a strategic thinker with a strong technical foundation and a collaborative mindset. The ideal candidate has experience leading technology development projects, is passionate about leveraging technology to improve global health and development outcomes, and thrives in a multicultural, mission-driven environment.

The position requires strong project management skills, a background in software development or DevOps, and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

LOCATION

This position is remote-friendly. The ideal candidate will have to balance working with US-based and India-based staff, requiring flexibility to accommodate meetings across global time zones. Preference will be given to candidates based in Africa or Asia, though applicants from other regions will be considered. For those who prefer to work in an office setting, our NYC office has temporary and permanent desk solutions for employees already local to NYC that can accommodate those preferences. Access to other Orbis offices may be provided. Orbis’s current policy requires that all staff visiting the NYC office must be vaccinated against COVID-19.
