ABOUT THE POSITION:

Manages and coordinates activities of the Engineering Department including design, testing, creating innovative solutions, and problem solving. Plan and improve production methods including production flow, tooling, assembly methods and production equipment. Oversee the development and execution of projects, manages budgets, and supervises multiple teams. They collaborate with other management personnel, provide instructions to engineering teams, and ensure the successful completion of projects on time and within budget. They also conduct research and development for new designs, products, and processes, while maintaining technical accuracy and coordinating work with other managers and staff. The primary focus of this position will be to ensure smooth project execution through detailed project planning, communication and proper utilization and coordination of available resources.

SCHEDULE: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm Monday – Friday, this position requires the ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and off-shift hours, as needed to support project timelines and business needs.

WAGE: Salary range for this position is $130,000.00 - $150,000.00 annually, subject to all required taxes and withholdings.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the design, estimation, document preparation, procurement, installation of assigned capital and plant projects. Coordinate the work of all plant personnel, contractors and vendors required to provide a timely completion of work with minimal disruption of production activities.
  • Provide engineering design documents for capital projects including equipment selection, plant layout, equipment specifications, contractor installation specifications, etc., for competitive bids.
  • Research equipment and materials to accomplish the needs for new or revised processes, packaging or products at the best reasonable cost.
  • Manage the Capital Planning System as part of the Engineering group with conceptualization, planning and budgeting for long term and short-term capital projects.
  • Apply engineering mathematical and scientific principles to engineering capital and plant projects from concept to implementation, start-up and training follow up.
  • Maintain a liaison with the R&D, Maintenance and Operations Departments for new developments requiring engineering support.
  • Monitor all projects to ensure projects are completed on time and within approved budgets.
  • When assigned, act as project manager for those completed projects requiring coordination and planning of many different disciplines, including supervising, coordinating and directing the efforts of outside consultants if needed.
  • Provide status reports on all active capital and plant projects as assigned, communicating project milestones and objectives, updated schedules, cost and/or scope changes to all affected employees or sub-contractors, and senior management.
  • Synchronize all project schedules to maximize efficient utilization of resources and avoid conflicting priorities.
  • Follow established programs, policies, and practices to produce safe quality foods that meet regulatory and company requirements.
  • Maintain accountability to Oberto Brands Food Safety and Quality Principles. Support the development, implementation, maintenance, and ongoing improvement of the SQF Systems. Informs Management of any food safety or quality issues or of any processes which have become non-compliant with specified requirements.
  • Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, participating in professional organization.
  • Back Up: Project engineer is a backup to the Engineering Manager.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Business or related field .
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience managing capital projects and process improvements in a fast paced, growth-oriented manufacturing environment; experience in food manufacturing ; will consider someone with 6+ years’ experience in lieu of education.
  • Experience with sophisticated packaging equipment in the consumer-packaged goods industry .
  • Must have knowledge and understanding food manufacturing, specifically meat manufacturing processing and packaging equipment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, WISHA and PSAPA regulations.
  • HACCP requirements; especially pertaining to equipment, maintenance and sanitation requirements
  • Must have working knowledge of manufacturing operations equipment and technology, including but not limited to PLC wiring and ladder logics, hydraulics, pneumatics, motor controls, refrigeration, boilers, mechanics and electrical.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work environment is that of an office environment. This employee regularly works with office equipment, materials, chemicals, wet floors and with wet equipment when on the production floor. This employee work around high voltage, hot water, and steam

  • Physical work including climbing stairs, etc.
  • Willing to work in a various-temperature environment
  • Ability to handle items weighting under 25lbs or may need to move objects safely and with proper body mechanics.
