Job summary

Equinix seeks a Regional Manager for Energy Operations to lead the end-to-end energy strategy across the EMEA markets, including the UK, Ireland and the Nordics. You’ll negotiate with suppliers, oversee contract lifecycle, and collaborate with Finance and Sustainability to optimize energy costs and renewable coverage.

You will translate global energy strategy into market plans, manage relationships with utility providers, and drive data-driven decisions to support regional business priorities.

Qualifications

Job Summary

This position reports to the Director, Energy Operations for the EMEA region and is responsible to lead the delivery of Equinix’s Global Energy and Sustainability strategy across several markets in the EMEA region. The role is part of the Global Energy team and provides the opportunity to work with the other regional Energy Operations teams to deliver on global deliverables.

As an regional manager, this role provides independent leadership and operational responsibility for a defined set of markets across the end-to-end Energy Operations workstream. This workstream covers the entire energy supply contract lifecycle, tactical engagement with utility companies, integration with finance and payment teams, operational delivery of renewable energy supply, engagement with sustainability team.

The role requires extensive experience in energy markets, energy sourcing, and renewable solutions, with the ability to lead negotiations with suppliers, oversee energy trading risk management, and shape market contracting strategy. Proven data management and analysis skills are also essential to translate these energy activity areas into business process inputs and outcomes. The successful candidate will bring strong energy market experience combined with effective analytical skills to drive business outcomes and serve stakeholders across the business.

Responsibilities

Leadership & Operational Ownership

• Lead EMEA end-to-end Energy Operations workstream for a defined set of markets, amongst which would be the UK, Ireland and the Nordics, aligned with global objectives and regional business priorities
• Translate global strategy into market-specific execution plans, ensuring scalability, cost efficiency, and regulatory alignment
• Act as the market subject matter expert on energy markets, supplier and utility landscape, regulatory trends, renewable solutions, and sustainability trends

Energy Supply Contract Lifecycle Management

• Engage with energy consultant to monitor market trends and understand technical details around available electricity products
• Schedule, prepare and execute with energy consultant supply contract sourcing processes and lead contract closing process through to signature.
• Day-to-day management of energy supply contracts across assigned markets
• Supplier relationship management and development

Tactical engagement with utility companies

• Engage with utility companies and internal Operations and Global Design & Construction teams to ensure effective and timely energization of new utility connections and continued energization of existing utility connections
• Support day-to-day management of utility contracts across assigned markets in close cooperation with Operations team
• Monitor actual and forecasted power draw levels against utility contractual commitments to anticipate future capacity needs and support long-term infrastructure planning

Integration with Finance and Payment teams

• Provide analysis and research support for commodity-, non-commodity and regulated price elements in support of budgets and identify opportunities for the optimization of these costs
• Lead development of annual energy budget and quarterly budget updates, monthly accruals and actual results reporting for assigned markets to FP&A team
• Drive efficiencies in energy data collection, analytics and reporting efforts for the region using standard IT tools and new solutions being developed by the Energy Analytics and Digital and Innovation teams
• Monitor and support utility bill payment process for assigned markets

Operational delivery of renewable energy supply

• Engage with Sustainability and Asset Management teams on renewable energy coverage plan for assigned markets including coverage of bundled-, unbundled- and Power Purchase Agreement renewable energy certificates.
• Work with energy suppliers in assigned market to ensure effective operational delivery and/or contracting of renewable energy certificates to ensure 100% renewable energy coverage

Engagement with sustainability team

• Ensure full participation in key program elements so that resulting energy data and information is sufficiently detailed, complete, accurate, and auditable so as to be used for external reporting agencies such as Global Reporting Initiative or Carbon Disclosure Project
• Work with energy suppliers in assigned market to ensure relevant proof of renewable energy delivery is provided in a timely, complete and compliant manner.
• Anticipate future capacity needs and support long-term infrastructure planning

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in energy procurement and energy trading risk management (Buyer / Supplier / Consultancy), utilities with significant exposure to multiple EMEA markets
• Numerate or analytical degree in a science / engineering / economics / business / similar discipline
• Proven experience in working within, and across regional teams, covering multiple geographies.
• Track record of leading large-scale supply contract negotiations and supplier partnerships
• Excellent quantitative and analytical capability including data analysis and ability to present complex data effectively to non-experts.
• Strong communication skills through experience with ability to present complex topics clearly to diverse audiences including senior business leadership.
• Ability to travel internationally across EMEA as required
