Job summary

Pacific Life Re is seeking a Manager, Business Architecture to shape enterprise capability maps, operating models and target-state designs. You will partner with senior leadership across business and technology to enable strategic planning and successful transformation initiatives.

You will deliver architecture governance, assess capabilities, identify risks, and guide investments that align with regulatory requirements and business outcomes.

Qualifications

  • Demonstratable track record in Business Analysis, Business Architecture or Operating Model Design.
  • Experience with senior management to understand strategy, operating model design and shape change delivery.
  • 6+ years of experience in financial services and regulated environments.
  • Understanding of data, reporting and analytics concepts, including the role of data in enabling business decision-making.
  • Knowledge of regulation, compliance and risk.
  • Knowledge of TOGAF, BIZBOK or ArchiMate frameworks.

Responsibilities

Job Title Manager, Business Architecture

Role Overview

As a Manager, Business Architect, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how the organization evolves to deliver on its strategic priorities. Reporting to the AVP, Business Architecture, and as a member of the broader Business Change team, you will develop and maintain an organization-wide view of business capabilities, processes, operating models, information, organizational structures, and technology to enable informed decision-making and successful business transformation. Partnering across business, technology, and change teams, you will assess current-state operations, identify opportunities for improvement, and design future-state solutions that strengthen organizational effectiveness and client outcomes. By connecting business strategy with execution, you will help prioritize investments, guide transformation initiatives, and ensure change efforts are aligned to long-term business objectives. This role offers the opportunity to influence organization-wide change, providing the insights, frameworks, and roadmaps that support strategic planning, operational excellence, and sustainable business growth.


Role Responsibilities

Business Architecture & Operating Model Development



  • Develop and maintain business architecture artefacts, including business capability maps, value streams, operating models, information concepts, organisational mappings and business roadmaps.

  • Create current-state and target-state views of business operations to support strategic planning and decision-making.

  • Define and maintain standards, methodologies and governance for business architecture across the organisation.

  • Ensure alignment between business strategy, operating model design and delivery initiatives and help transform strategy into executable change.


Capability Assessment & Maturity Improvement



  • Assess business capabilities and organisational maturity against industry best practices and strategic objectives.

  • Identify capability gaps, dependencies, risks and constraints that may impact business performance.

  • Define improvement opportunities and prioritised capability development plans.

  • Track progress toward target-state capability maturity.


Business Analysis & Problem Solving



  • Investigate complex business challenges and identify root causes of organisational issues.

  • Ensure delivery of business benefits and value by defining the desired business outcomes and ensuring change initiatives deliver these outcomes making sure these outcomes are supported by specific and measurable performance metrics.

  • Analyse business processes, operating models, data flows and organisational structures to identify improvement opportunities.

  • Facilitate workshops and stakeholder engagement sessions to gather information and validate findings.

  • Present insights and recommendations to leadership teams in a clear and actionable manner.


Technology & Change Alignment



  • Work closely with Solution, Data and Enterprise Architects to ensure technology investments meet business objectives.

  • Evaluate the business impact of proposed technology changes.

  • Work closely with Business Process Management and Business Analysts to:

  • Ensure business requirements and architectural principles are reflected in solution designs.

  • Support the development of business cases and investment proposals.

  • Support the assurance activities undertaken by the Business Change team to ensure value and benefits realisation.


Governance & Assurance



  • Provide business architecture oversight and assurance for change initiatives.

  • Ensure proposed changes align with target operating models, architectural standards and strategic objectives.

  • Identify and communicate business risks, impacts and dependencies.

  • Support governance forums with architectural analysis and recommendations.


Skills & Experience

Essential



  • Demonstratable track record in Business Analysis, Business Architecture or Operating Model Design.

  • Experience working collaboratively with senior management and executive leadership to understand strategy, operating model design and shape change delivery and transformation outcomes.

  • 6+ years of experience working in financial services and regulated environments is essential.

  • Understanding of regulation, compliance and risk.

  • Be able to show how these considerations influence business design, operating models and change delivery

  • Understanding of data, reporting and analytics concepts, including the role of data in enabling business decision-making.

  • Proven experience of working with business architecture frameworks and methodologies such as TOGAF, BIZBOK or ArchiMate.


Desirable



  • Demonstrable knowledge of life reinsurance business models, products and industry practices would be an advantage.

  • Familiarity with business process improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma or Continuous Improvement frameworks.

  • Experience supporting large-scale business transformation or digital transformation programmes.

  • Qualifications in one of: BCS, TOGAF, Business Architecture Guild certified or other equivalent architecture qualifications BCS, IIBA or similar certification in Business Analysis

  • Knowledge of Agile, SAFe or other modern delivery methodologies.


Competencies and Behaviours

Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex business, process, data and technology concepts into clear, understandable insights for a diverse range of audiences. Demonstrable experience engaging with and influencing senior stakeholders, including Executive Committee and C-Suite leaders. Be able to demonstrate resilience when working in complex and challenging change environments, where priorities, requirements and stakeholder needs may evolve and change over time.
