Job summary

Worldwide Events Group is seeking a Management & Financial Accountant on a fixed-term maternity cover to join our Finance team in London. You will manage management accounts and revenue accounting, purchase ledger, payments for approval by the FD, some fixed asset management and treasury, plus staff expenses.

You’ll work with our team of experienced professionals who deliver global events and embrace new technologies. Hybrid work arrangement applies in a dynamic events environment.

Qualifications

• Qualified or part-qualified accountant (AAT, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent), or significant equivalent experience in a similar role.
• Solid grasp of accruals-based accounting (deferred revenue, accruals and prepayments) and UK VAT, ideally in an event-driven business.
• Experience with month-end close and reconciling across multiple bank accounts and systems (Xero and Salesforce a bonus).

Responsibilities

• Oversee deferred revenue to ensure income is recognised in the P&L in the month the event occurs, not when billed.
• Maintain accruals for income or costs due but not yet incurred.
• Process prepayments to reflect costs when the service occurs, not on invoice.
• Oversee accounts payable, weekly GBP payments and international payments.
• Prepare VAT returns and ensure VAT compliance across the business.
• Manage fixed assets and depreciation in the asset register.
• Run revenue variance analysis between Xero and Salesforce per event.
• Complete bank reconciliations for all accounts.
• Oversee company credit cards and staff expenses.
• Handle client queries and assist non-finance colleagues.

The Role

As a Management & Financial Accountant, you will be a key member of our Finance team. The role is a broad one encompassing most elements of management accounts and revenue accounting, full responsibility for the purchase ledger, full responsibility for the creation of all payments for approval by the FD, some financial accounting tasks like managing fixed assets, basic treasury and cash management tasks and management of company card programs and staff expenses.

You’ll join our growing team of experienced, passionate people who have delivered hundreds of events worldwide and who bring creativity, precision and purpose to everything we do.

This is a fixed-term maternity cover contract reporting to our Finance Director.

Responsibilities

• Oversee deferred revenue to ensure income is recognised in the P&L in the month the event occurs, as opposed to when it's billed.
• Maintain accruals to ensure that any income or costs that haven't yet happened but are due are recorded correctly in the P&L.
• Process general and event-related prepayments to account for costs in the P&L when the service occurs, as opposed to when the invoice is received.
• Oversee accounts payable, including weekly GBP payment runs and ad hoc international payments.
• Prepare VAT returns and ensure VAT compliance across the business and within the Finance team.
• Ensure new assets are added to the fixed asset register and current assets are correctly depreciated.
• Run revenue variance analysis between Xero and Salesforce per event to ensure accurate billing.
• Complete bank reconciliations for all bank accounts.
• Oversee company credit cards and employee expenses.
• Handle any client queries.
• Respond to ad hoc requests from non-finance colleagues.
• Assist with the year-end audit.
• Implement new processes and software to improve efficiency.

Due to the nature of our work, you may occasionally be required to work outside standard hours to support events or meet key deadlines

You’ll thrive in this role if you bring:

• Ability to deputise for the Finance Director on occasion and be fully aware of the responsibility associated with being so close to the company’s cash.
• An innovative, collaborative approach to tackling increasing team workloads and a constant willingness to try using new technologies are prerequisites.
• Ability to take ownership of a broad, fast-paced workload from day one, learning quickly and working independently with minimal handover.
• Solid grasp of accruals-based accounting (deferred revenue, accruals and prepayments) and UK VAT, ideally in an event-driven business.
• Confidence running month-end close and reconciling across multiple bank accounts and systems (Xero and Salesforce experience a bonus).
• A clear communicator who can support non-finance colleagues and handle client queries professionally.
