A leading council in Stockport is seeking a Management Accountant for a temporary full-time position. The role combines traditional management accounting duties with project support aimed at improving financial efficiency. Hybrid: Stopford House and homeworking (required presence in the office is on ad hoc basis mainly dependent on specific requirement for e.g. face to face meeting)

Your Role
We are looking for a skilled and motivated person to be part of ensuring that the council manages its resources effectively, delivering value for money, exploiting opportunities to drive out inefficiencies and generating income where appropriate.
The role will consist of both traditional management accounting and support to key projects. The role will change and develop over the two years and will react to demands from the projects and services.
Projects will include those linked to the council’s savings programme. The more traditional management accounting will include providing financial advice and support budget holders and other colleagues; annual budget preparation; closure of the accounts as well as monitoring of budgets and providing regular summary financial positions statements and forecasts at a variety of levels and detail.
You will receive direct support from the Group Accountant(s) carrying out all of the above.
About You
The job will be ideal for someone who has effective analytical skills and can quickly assess financial implications and advise stakeholders accordingly. Part of this entails at times a high support, high challenge approach when engaging with budget holders in a helpful manner.
The job will require confident presentational skills, and the ability to convey financial information in a variety of styles to suit the audience
The role requires the ability to be flexible, self-organised and prioritise tasks.
