Permanent, Full Time (37 hours per week)

Purpose: The Management Accountant is pivotal in ensuring the Group's financial stability and growth. This role involves delivering exceptional business partnering services, which include providing value for money, setting and monitoring budgets, forecasting, and business planning across various service areas and the Group as a whole.

Key Responsibilities: In this dynamic position, you will be the primary source of proactive and high-quality financial advice, enabling effective budget management and control. Your ability to enhance reporting will be evident as you prepare budgets, costing models, and overhead allocations. Implementing robust procedures to support financial management and reporting of new business areas will be a key part of your role.

Collaboration is essential, and you will work closely with the Wider Leadership Team and Budget Managers, providing timely financial information that drives strategic and operational decisions. Preparing accounts for business areas, service charges, and statutory audits, complete with comprehensive supporting documents, will be part of your routine. Your expertise in financial modelling will allow you to evaluate and appraise new projects, making informed recommendations that guide the Group towards growth and diversification.

The Management Accountant will provide professional financial expertise, insight, and support across the Group with accurate and timely financial performance information and analysis. You will support the production and delivery of the Group's budget and business plan. The role involves ensuring regulatory and statutory financial compliance, underpinned by a robust framework of financial controls. You will support the Corporate Finance team in delivering excellent customer services, standards in financial management and taxation, reporting and business partnering, financial planning, and meeting financial regulatory standards, including rent and service charge setting.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing proactive and high-quality financial information and advice to enable effective budget management and control.
  • Setting and monitoring Service Charges and undertaking reconciliations.
  • Supporting the development and continual improvement of reporting through the preparation of budgets, costing models, and overhead allocations.
  • Delivering costings, process developments, and systems reporting, ensuring robust procedures are implemented to support and drive effective financial management and reporting of new business areas.
  • Working collaboratively with the Wider Leadership Team and Budget Managers to support strategic and operational decision-making through the provision of robust and timely financial information.
  • Preparing accounts for business areas, service charges, and statutory audits, including full supporting working papers.
  • Utilising a range of financial modelling techniques to evaluate and appraise new and complex projects, drawing conclusions from such evaluations and making reasoned recommendations based on these.
  • Enabling growth and diversification by adopting an innovative but robust approach to appraising projects and providing financial advice.
  • Successfully managing and developing the Assistant Management Accountant, collaborating towards a highly engaged, high-performing team providing excellent financial services across Stockport Homes Group.
About You: You should have extensive accounting knowledge, preferably professionally qualified through membership of CCAB/CIMA. You will have experience working in a complex and varied financial environment, as well as experience working as part of a team to set budgets, produce regular financial management information, and prepare statutory accounts to financial standards (e.g., FRS102, Charities SORP). Excellent IT skills, including advanced use of Excel, and knowledge of finance and feeder systems, relevant processes, dependencies, and interfaces, are essential. You should have experience working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams to support and drive organisational change and development. The ability to produce technically competent and accurate financial information in line with tight deadlines is crucial. Strong interpersonal skills, integrity, and credibility, with the ability to gain the confidence of and build relationships with Directors, Senior, and Operational Managers, are important. Additionally, you should have a working knowledge of service charge accounting.

About Us

Welcome to Stockport Homes Group (SHG), an umbrella organisation for four, socially responsible interdependent companies within the housing sector. What makes us unique is our vision: one where entrepreneurship and commercialisation go hand in hand with social impact.

We are Stockport's largest landlord, managing over 12,000 properties on behalf of Stockport Council and Private Landlords, as well as our own growing portfolio of new build homes.

As builders, landlords, architects and developers we believe in collective responsibility for more affordable housing. Equally, through a commitment to a range of wrap around services we look for ways to improve people's lives: from advice and support on health and wellbeing, to employment, educational opportunities and help in the home.

All our profit is reinvested within the group to maximise opportunities for those who most need our help.

Companies within SHG:

Stockport Homes - Stockport Homes was formed in 2005, to manage housing stock across Stockport on behalf of Stockport Council. As a limited company, we operate as an ALMO which is an 'Arm's length management organisation', so whilst the company is owned by the Council, we operate independently on day-to-day matters and in delivering services to our customers. We are committed to providing quality homes across Stockport and listening to the voice of our customers to continually improve our services.

Three Sixty - Three Sixty delivers innovative, high-quality construction, maintenance and facilities management services across Stockport, Greater Manchester and Cheshire. We are trades people who operate with a friendly, community-led approach. We get the balance right between excellent customer service and service delivery. We take pride in giving back to our local communities and each year we Gift Aid our profits to SKylight to support the work they do to help Stockport and the borough thrive.

Skylight - SKylight is a Charitable Community Benefit Society, established in 2018, dedicated to transforming lives in Stockport. We work closely with local communities to support people into employment, alleviate poverty and enhance digital skills. Our services help individuals live independently while fostering strong community networks, particularly for those facing disadvantages. We are proud to contribute to making Stockport a great place to live and work.

Viaduct Housing Partnership - Formed in 2017, Viaduct is a development partnership between Stockport Homes Group and Stockport Council, focusing on building more affordable homes in Stockport.

SHG is proud to be an award-winning organisation dedicated to transforming the lives and communities of our customers and as a public-private sector fusion, SHG is focused on future growth and excellence - looking for the best people to join the Group to be on this exciting journey.
