About Us

The International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED) is a not-for-profit policy research and influence organisation, and a globally recognised force for social and environmental justice. Our mission is to build a fairer, more sustainable world, using evidence, action and influence in partnership with others. We work with an unparalleled global network to reshape policies, funding mechanisms and governance at all levels. For more than 50 years, IIED has acted alongside marginalised communities across Africa, Asia and Latin America to bring lived experience, expertise and evidence from those regions to global attention. Our people are central to this purpose, and we currently have almost 200 people across more than 16 countries, with office bases in London and Edinburgh.

We are now looking for a Management Accountant to join our team on a permanent, full-time basis (35 hours per week).

The Role

As a Management Accountant, you will play a critical role in managing our financial health from a reporting standpoint.

Specifically, you’ll prepare insightful financial reports, support budget management, and contribute to our long-term financial sustainability. You’ll produce monthly management accounts, undertake variance analysis, and deliver clear commentary to guide data driven decision-making.

Reporting to the Head of Financial Planning and Analysis, you’ll support cost recovery strategies, develop financial models, and contribute to budgeting and re-forecasting processes.

You’ll also collaborate closely with teams across the organisation helping them to manage budgets, improve cost efficiency and ensure strong financial performance.

Other Key Responsibilities:

- Monitor overhead allocation processes and advise on financial risks
- Maintain financial controls and support audits and compliance
- Optimise financial systems and lead process improvement initiatives
- Provide tailored reporting and insights for operational teams

About You

To be considered as our Management Accountant, you will need:

- To be qualified with a recognised professional body such as CIMA, ACCA or ACA or equivalent experience
- Relevant professional experience in similar finance roles
- Experience mapping and analysing processes and identifying and implementing process improvement
- Experience managing budgets, financial monitoring and planning
- Extensive knowledge of charity accounting and reporting on the requirements of the Charity SORP
- Proficiency in accounting software and financial analysis tools
- Advanced Excel skills

This is an exciting opportunity for a CIMA, ACCA or ACA qualified finance professional with charity accounting experience to join our mission-driven, globally recognised organisation.

You'll do more than manage numbers and play a key role in strengthening our financial foundations. You’ll be part of a passionate, purpose-led community tackling climate, inequality, and biodiversity crises.

This role offers a unique chance to deepen your expertise in international finance within the not-for-profit sector while contributing directly to sustainable development goals.

So, if you want to apply your financial expertise where it truly counts, helping people and the planet thrive, we want to hear from you.

The Benefits

- Salary of £54,438 to £67,692 per annum
- 25 days' annual leave per year (increasing with service) plus bank holidays and additional leave over Christmas
- 7.5% employer pension contributions
- Flexible hybrid working options
- Enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption pay
- Interest-free season ticket loan (subject to eligibility)
- Cycle-to-work scheme
- Employee protection scheme (life, critical illness, income protection)
- Employee Assistance Programme

Please note, you are likely to be working from home most of the time. As such, you will need a suitable place to work and a reliable, fast internet connection.

Key dates

- Closing date: 24 August 2025
- Interviews: Week commencing 15 September and 22 September 2025 (held virtually via Microsoft Teams)
