Role OverviewAs Management Accountant, you will provide an effective financial/management accounting and reporting service to the organisation. Acting as a professional and specialist colleague, you’ll apply your financial expertise to deliver complex services, partner with business areas, and provide strategic advice. You'll identify and implement improvements across services, processes, and procedures to ensure financial governance and operational excellence.
What We’re Looking ForYou will be a fully or part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, or CIPFA) with proven experience providing financial management support within a customer-focused environment. Ideally, you will bring:
- Experience developing and implementing financial processes, systems, and reporting mechanisms.
- Understanding of public sector finance, with previous experience working within or alongside a public organisation.
- Strong ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent self-organisation, communication skills, and attention to detail.
Key Responsibilities- Financial Reporting: Produce timely, accurate financial monitoring and statutory reports.
- Business Partnering: Provide expert financial support to directorates and stakeholders.
- System & Process Improvement: Enhance accounting systems and processes to ensure they are fit for purpose.
- Budget Monitoring: Track expenditure against budgets and support decision-making.
- Compliance: Support the development of audit, risk, and regulatory frameworks.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain strong relationships with internal teams and external partners.
- Team Support: Provide cover for the Management and Financial Accountant when required.
Qualifications- Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience.
- Accounting qualification (fully or part-qualified: CIPFA, CIMA, ACA, ACCA).
Skills and Experience- Strong background in financial management and public sector finance.
- Ability to develop and improve financial systems, policies, and procedures.
- Knowledge of relevant financial regulations, risk management, and best practices.
- Excellent analytical, advisory, and communication skills.
- Comfortable interpreting financial data and advising non-financial stakeholders.
