Overview
Performs both mammography and bone density procedures in accordance with established professional and departmental standards, demonstrating complete working knowledge of all mammography and bone density equipment within the department.
Responsibilities
- Performs all routine mammography and bone density procedures as assigned
- Provides radiation protection to patients, staff, and self according to prescribed safety standards and ALARA principles
- Verifies patient identification, compares provider scripts to order requisitions, and ensures exam accuracy
- Obtains comprehensive patient history and clinical data for correlation with images
- Demonstrates proper patient positioning and anatomy visualization for both modalities
- Explains procedures thoroughly to patients/families to reduce anxiety and ensure cooperation
- Performs quality control procedures for both mammography and bone density equipment
- Maintains exposure readings within acceptable limits
- Verifies images in PACS and tracks patients according to department procedures
- Ensures rooms are properly stocked with supplies and maintains inventory
- Follows all ACR and MSQA regulations
- Performs routine QC for both mammography and bone density equipment
- Identifies and reports equipment problems promptly
- Maintains proper documentation of quality control procedures
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Graduate of accredited School of Radiography
- Current ARRT-M (Mammography) certification
- Must obtain bone density credentials within 1 year of hire if not currently held
- Delaware State licensure
- Current BLS/CPR certification
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a Registered Radiologic Technologist
