Job description

Area: Jarrow, South Tyneside

Rates of Pay: Age-related national minimum wage to £12.90 per hour. This is negotiable at interview, and a higher rate may be payable.

Holidays: 5.6 weeks pro-rata per annum

We are urgently seeking a younger male to be a personal assistant to a 15-year-old boy. The boy has a diagnosis of Autism, learning disability, and Anxiety Disorder. Part of his anxiety manifests as discomfort around unfamiliar people. The role involves after-school hours and some weekends (to be discussed at interview).

He loves football, alternating between Newcastle United and Sunderland depending on his mood. He is very active, enjoys swimming, the beach, and attends Waves on Saturdays. He likes going out for food and being active, and he seeks social interaction with peers.

He can be verbally outspoken and may sometimes say inappropriate things. He may also display physical behaviors that could challenge him when in a heightened state. He has limited danger awareness in the community and may leave his environment when heightened, making him vulnerable when unsupervised.

We urgently need the right people to help this young man have a fulfilling and varied experience doing the activities he enjoys.

This position is based on a 2:1 ratio with the right candidates. A full enhanced DBS check is essential.

Applicants must live in the UK and have a driving licence; non-drivers may be considered.

There is a genuine occupational requirement for the holder of this post to be male/female, in accordance with the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014 and the Equality Act 2010 Schedule 9 paragraphs 1–4.

This vacancy will close once a suitable candidate is appointed.

At the time of starting employment, the successful candidate must have permission to work in the UK.
