Job summary

A recruitment agency is seeking a Make Ready Support Worker to ensure that ambulances and equipment are decontaminated and prepared for operational readiness. Job Title: Make Ready Support Worker
Band: 3
Directorate: Quality, Safety & Improvement
Location: Regional (various NIAS sites)
Reports To: Make Ready Supervisor
Accountable To: Environmental & Vehicle Cleanliness Manager

Overview

The Make Ready Support Worker is responsible for ensuring ambulances, equipment, and consumables are decontaminated, cleaned, and fully stocked for immediate operational readiness. This role ensures the safety and wellbeing of NIAS staff and patients through vehicle and equipment maintenance, cleaning, and safety checks. Shift work, including nights and weekends, may be required.

Key Duties
  • Clean, decontaminate, and prepare ambulances and equipment to agreed standards.
  • Check vehicle roadworthiness and on-board equipment functionality.
  • Stock clinical response bags and maintain vehicle/stock room supplies.
  • Drive/move vehicles between stations as required.
  • Dispose of waste and sharps safely, and maintain cleaning equipment.
  • Assist with environmental cleanliness audits and document actions.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, station officers, ambulance crews, and contractors.
  • Maintain accurate records of cleaning and decontamination activities.
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety policies, including PPE use, COSHH compliance, and manual handling practices.
Essential Criteria
  • 3 GCSEs (Grades A-C/9-4), including English, or relevant vocational qualification (e.g., NVQ/QCF Level 2) or minimum 3 years’ experience in a service/support role.
  • Category C1 driving licence (or evidence of attainment prior to start).
  • Willingness to work shifts, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Flexibility to work at different locations as operationally required.
  • Effective communication, organisational skills, and the ability to work on own initiative.
  • Professional, calm, and discreet with an understanding of confidentiality.
Desirable
  • Experience in a healthcare or emergency services environment.
