Job summary

A key healthcare service provider in Northern Ireland seeks an individual for a temporary support role to ensure ambulance vehicles are fully prepared for use, contributing to vital health services. Responsibilities include maintaining cleanliness, conducting inspections, and ensuring equipment functionality. Candidates should have GCSEs or relevant experience and a valid driving licence.

Qualifications

  • 3 GCSEs (Grades A-C / 9-4) including English and 1 year’s experience in a service/support discipline role.
  • Or relevant NVQ/QCF/RQF Level 2 and 1 year’s experience.
  • Or 3 years’ experience in a service/support role.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to ensuring the highest standards of environmental cleanliness.
  • Ensure vehicles are stocked, cleaned, and roadworthy.
  • Conduct Vehicle Daily Inspection (VDI) checks and report defects.

Job description

This is an excellent opportunity to join the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service (NIAS) in a key support role. You’ll play an essential part in ensuring ambulance vehicles and equipment are fully prepared for use - helping frontline teams deliver safe and responsive care across the South East Division. If you have experience in support services and want to contribute to the delivery of vital health services, we want to hear from you.Temporary role (approximately for 3 - 6 months).

Responsibilities
  • Contribute to ensuring the highest standards of environmental cleanliness within designated area of work
  • Contribute to the readiness of the NIAS fleet by ensuring vehicles are stocked, cleaned, in good state of repair and road worthy
  • Ensure high standards of cleanliness are maintained both in the interior and exterior of vehicles in line with agreed standards
  • Ensure on-board equipment such as medical devices are clean, functioning and in good state of repair
  • Drive / move vehicles within and between stations to facilitate cleaning / decontamination
  • Undertake Vehicle Daily Inspection (VDI) checks on lights, wiper blades, fluid levels etc and report defects / organise repair where appropriate
  • Ensure that cleaning equipment is clean, in good state of repair and stored correctly whilst not in use
  • Dispose of waste / sharps in accordance with NIAS policy and procedure. Replenish household / clinical waste as required
  • Identify areas where improvement is required and promote innovation where possible
  • To monitor / replenish supplies within each operational vehicle / stock room while ensuring stock rotation is in place
Skills and Qualifications
  • 3 GCSEs (Grades A-C / 9-4) including English and 1 year’s experience in a service/support discipline role
  • Or relevant NVQ/QCF/RQF Level 2 and 1 year’s experience
  • Or 3 years’ experience in a service/support role
  • Hold or be able to present evidence of Category C1 driving licence before starting
  • Willingness to work shifts including evenings, weekends, and public holidays
  • Flexible to travel between base locations
  • Effective communication and basic numeracy skills
  • Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain confidentiality
  • Able to work on own initiative and prioritise workload
