Job description

The key function is to support NHS Property Services in delivering building services maintenance and repairs across the NHS to ensure buildings are maintained to the highest standards and to provide a safe and secure environment for visitors, customers, and employees.

Main duties of the job

Ensure compliance with all processes, procedures, and policies that meet organisational standards/requirements, including but not limited to our Health & Safety Policy, HTMs (Health Technical Memoranda), and SFG20. Implement new or revised policies within your work areas. Deliver planned and reactive maintenance services from the PPM planner, ensuring operational standards are maintained. Duties may include fault finding, minor repairs, or installations, and maintaining services and equipment within critical environments. Assess problems to determine the best course of action, including complex technical issues. Maintain effective site log books at all NHS premises, ensuring they are completed accurately and promptly.

Job responsibilities

We are offering a position for a Maintenance Technician - Plumbing based at Epping - St Margaret Community Hospital. This mobile role covers west Essex & Hertfordshire. It is a permanent position, working 37.5 hours weekly, Monday-Friday, 8 am-4:30 pm. The starting salary is from £38,000 depending on experience, plus on-call allowance. Requirements include:

  • BTEC City & Guilds with relevant experience and training, or
  • NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing & Heating or equivalent, or
  • Formal apprenticeship or craft-trained equivalent.
Additional requirements
  • A valid driving license is essential.
  • Proficiency with technological devices for job logging.
  • On-call availability.
  • Industry experience is desirable.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, collaborating with other technical disciplines.

Note: DBS and DVLA checks are required.

Key responsibilities
  • Ensure compliance with NHSPS health, safety, and wellbeing policies, technical guidance, process, procedures, and statutory regulations.
  • Implement new or revised practices and policies within your work areas.
  • Deliver scheduled, reactive, and remedial maintenance as directed, maintaining operational standards.

  • Undertake tasks in disciplines other than your own if required.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • BTEC City & Guilds with relevant experience, or
  • NVQ Level 3 Mechanical Engineering or equivalent, or
  • Formal apprenticeship or craft-trained equivalent.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
Experience
  • Experience in building maintenance.
  • Familiarity with method statements or permit-to-work systems.
  • Experience maintaining services to SFG20 standards.
