Job summary

Imperial College London requires a Mechanical Maintenance Technician to deliver reactive and planned maintenance for mechanical assets across a multi-site estate. You will support academic, research, teaching and admin functions, ensuring minimal disruption to operations.

The role emphasizes proactive maintenance, CAFM reporting via Planon, and adherence to Health & Safety requirements. IOSH training and full computer literacy are valued assets for success.

Qualifications

  • Gained a recognised apprenticeship and an NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical discipline.
  • Experience with hot water systems, pumps, compressed air systems, chillers and AHUs.
  • Able to work in a busy multi-tasking team with a proactive approach to resolving problems.
  • Excellent communication and customer care skills; Health & Safety awareness; IOSH trained preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out reactive and planned maintenance and repairs to mechanical equipment and associated systems.
  • Proactively ensure plant and equipment are fully operational and fit for purpose.
  • Complete work reports in the CAFM system Planon and maintain accurate records.
  • Maintain safe workplace practices in line with Health & Safety legislation.
  • Undertake other duties as directed by the line manager/supervisor.

The Maintenance Team forms a vital part of the Property Division who help manage one of the largest built estates in the University sector. The department delivers a comprehensive range of services to an academic community who are world leaders in the provision of Engineering, Medicine, Natural Sciences, Business Management, Research and Teaching across a multi-site estate.

As a Mechanical Maintenance Technician for Imperial, you will be expected to work as part of a team providing mechanically biased support to our Academic, Research, Teaching and Administrative functions. Our Maintenance Team carry out Reactive and PPM works to assets, project support and infrastructure to ensure all Imperial activities can be carried out with minimal disruption.

We expect relevant qualifications and/or experience against the essential criteria of the role and competencies, which should be demonstrated in your personal statement with detailed information on how your skills, knowledge and experience are relevant to this role.


  • You will carry out reactive and planned maintenance and repairs to mechanical equipment and all associated systems.
  • You will undertake a proactive approach in ensuring all plant and equipment is fully operational and fit for purpose.
  • You will undertake appropriate administrative tasks by fulfilling the work report on the CAFM system Planon.
  • You will maintain safe workplace practice and procedures in accordance with the requirements of Health & Safety Legislation.
  • You will undertake other duties which may arise commensurate with the grade of the post as directed by the line manager/supervisor.

  • Gained a recognised apprenticeship and attained an appropriate NVQ level 3 in Mechanical discipline with knowledge of hot water systems, pumps, compressed air systems, chillers, AHU’s etc.
  • Have a proven ability to work within a busy multi-tasking team with a flexible approach to daily work and a proactive approach to resolving problems.
  • Excellent communication and customer care skills.
  • Understanding of Health & Safety, preferably IOSH trained
  • Be computer literate and able to use MS Office products: Word, Teams, Outlook for e-mail, and calendar appointments.
  • Knowledge of Planon and use of tablet would be an advantage.
