The Maintenance Technician performs general maintenance and repairs on equipment and buildings, requiring practical skills in trades such as painting, carpentry, plumbing, masonry, and electrical work. Responsibilities include:

  • Replacing electrical receptacles, wires, switches, fixtures, and motors
  • Patching minor holes and cracks in walls and ceilings
  • Repairing or replacing sinks, water coolers, and toilets
  • Painting structures and equipment
  • Repairing or replacing concrete floors, steps, and sidewalks
  • Replacing damaged paneling and floor tiles
  • Hanging doors and installing locks
  • Replacing broken window panes
  • Performing general maintenance on equipment and machinery
  • Other duties as assigned

Depending on the site, Facility Technicians may have different levels to reflect seniority within the Department.

Responsibilities and Knowledge:

  • Maintain and repair machines, equipment, and buildings
  • Fix or replace faulty electrical components (as per local/state requirements)
  • Inspect and diagnose problems
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance
  • Assemble and set up machinery or equipment
  • Plan repairs using blueprints or diagrams
  • Conduct general building upkeep
  • Order supplies
  • Prepare estimates and costs
  • Keep detailed work records
  • Other duties as assigned

Technicians are responsible for maintenance tasks that do not require licensed tradesperson skills and must recognize when a job exceeds their expertise.

Technicians will obtain supplies from distributors or storerooms and must safely operate hand and power tools.

Qualifications:

  • Must obtain OSHA 10 (Construction or General Industry) certification within 6 months (training provided)
  • No certifications/licenses required
  • Five years of maintenance experience preferred but not required
  • High school diploma or equivalent minimum
