An NHS healthcare facility in Plymouth is seeking a motivated electrical maintenance technician to assist in the maintenance of building services and equipment. The role requires a UK City and Guilds or NVQ qualification, with responsibilities including routine maintenance, compliance with safety regulations, and participation in an on-call rota. Candidates should have a flexible approach to work and strong communication skills.
We are seeking a highly motivated, electrically biased professional individual with the ability to multi-skill when required, to work full time over 5 days. The role involves assisting a multi-skilled team of tradesmen in carrying out maintenance and working on buildings, building services, plant, and equipment within healthcare facilities.
The ideal candidate must have a UK City and Guilds or NVQ qualification and be compliant with UK legislation and guidance.
Working across the Plymouth area, you should demonstrate good knowledge of building services, experience with electrical and mechanical tools, a flexible approach to work, and have completed a recognised electrical apprenticeship.
You will also be required to work independently after gaining site experience.
Good communication skills, willingness to undertake training, numeracy, literacy, and computer skills are essential. The role requires the ability to work overtime at short notice, travel across Plymouth, and participate in an on-call rota.
Undertake maintenance and installation work for mechanical and electrical services and equipment. This includes routine maintenance and repairs of electro-mechanical equipment in hospitals, health centres, clinics, and administration buildings, such as decontamination equipment, HVAC systems, plumbing, building management systems, motors, and engineering plant.
The post holder will become qualified to carry out duties as an Authorised Person (AP) for electrical works in accordance with HTM standards, once assessed as competent by Line Management.
Serve as part of the maintenance team to deliver high-quality care through effective operation and maintenance of healthcare building services and participate in the out-of-hours Duty Engineer roster as directed.
Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and statutory legislation, and apply best working practices at all times.

Perform tasks delegated by line management or helpdesk, including maintenance and repair of electro-mechanical equipment such as HVAC systems, hospital beds, medical suction equipment, heating systems, patient trolleys, physio and gym equipment, and macerators.
Report any problems or hazards, including substandard installations or those failing to meet regulations. Isolate or make safe dangerous installations to ensure safety.
Conduct fault finding, investigation, and testing. Manage materials and stock levels, keeping accurate records. Carry out work safely and efficiently within reasonable timescales. Only undertake financial transactions with prior authorization.
Undertake training to stay current with regulations and safe systems of work. Liaise with contractors to ensure effective operations. Train to operate dental sterilising equipment as required. Complete assessments to become an Authorised Person (AP) for electrical works per HTM standards.
This role requires a DBS check due to the nature of healthcare environments.
£29,970 to £36,483 annually, pro-rata, plus £3,277 R&R and 4.5% on-call when qualified.
