Job summary

A leading recruitment agency in the UK is looking for Mechanical & Electrical Technicians for a major train manufacturer. Candidates should have NVQ Level 3 qualifications in mechanical or electrical engineering and relevant experience. This role involves overseeing train maintenance tasks, with an hourly pay rate ranging from £27.93 to £41.90. The position is based in Eastleigh, Southampton, with a contract length of 6 months, Monday to Friday shifts.

Job description

TXM Recruit are looking for a team of Mechanical & Electrical Technicians working for one of the leading train manufacturers/maintenance train companies in the UK.
We are looking for individuals from a rolling stock, REME and Aircraft (Avionics) background who hold advanced experience within the field of mechanical or Electrical engineering.

Mechanical & Electrical Technicians.

Location: Eastleigh, Southampton
Qualification: Minimum NVQ Level 3 in mechanical or electrical engineering
Shifts: Monday to Friday, Morning and Afternoon shift.
Contract length: 6 months +
Training: Training provided.

HOURLY PAY RATE:
Umbrella:
Hourly Pay: DAYS £27.93 per hour, £33.52 per hour for afternoon shift, and £41.90 hourly for overtime. (Anything over 37.5 hours) (inside IR35 so would need to be paid through an umbrella company or PAYE)

Working day schedule:
Train comes into the depot – Train gets jacked up – Technicians take bogies off – Welding repairs take place by welders – Welding inspectors inspect welding work carried out – Technicians put bogies back on the train unit and put it back together – Technicians test unit. All works carried out will be documented. Preventative planned and corrective maintenance - Mechanical and electrical modifications.

Technician Job Description

- Overseeing train shunts
- Coupling and uncoupling of trains to shunt vehicles
- Coordinating and carrying unit lifts using jacks
- Disconnecting underframe equipment, such as water tanks, exhausts, couplers
- Removing Bogies
- Dismantle and reassembling front end of trains, body panelling and support frames etc
- Carrying electrical disconnections in preparation for welding activities
- Carrying out vehicle live testing using advance train test equipment.
- Understand engineering drawings and procedures.

Job Skills and Experience:
Experience ideally working within a rail service and maintenance environment, but other industries will be considered:

- Rolling Stock
- RAF
- British Army
- Royal Navy

Qualifications:
NVQ Level 3 in Mechanical or electrical discipline.
Intermediate IT skills – typically Word, Excel, Outlook
Good written and verbal communication skills
