Job Title: Technician

As a Technician, you’ll provide site-based engineering support to minimise downtime and ensure the uptime and availability of the installed automated equipment on site. Through a professional engineering approach and a commitment to service quality, you’ll support the shift team by utilising a broad range of skills and taking a proactive approach to improving performance and reliability.

The Technician reports directly to the Engineering Shift Manager and is mentored by the Senior Engineer. You will work on a 4 on 4 off shift pattern (rotation of days/nights).

Primary Responsibilities:
  1. Carry out preventative and corrective maintenance and repair of all onsite automated equipment.
  2. Perform planned and reactive repairs on automated material handling systems, including tote conveyors, spiral conveyors, sorters, shuttles, and robotics.
  3. Fault-finding and diagnosis of mechanical and electrical faults.
  4. Respond promptly to automation faults and breakdowns to ensure minimal downtime.
  5. Prioritise system faults to optimise uptime and equipment availability.
  6. Complete reports using CMMS and Microsoft software packages as required.
  7. Ensure compliance with health and safety legislation as a priority.
  8. Participate in the delivery, installation, commissioning, and testing of upgrades and enhancements.
  9. Maintain optimal levels of onsite spare parts inventory.
  10. Support site meetings as needed.
  11. Mentor, train, and advise junior team members.
Qualifications:
  • Recognised Engineering Apprenticeship, ONC, or equivalent qualification in engineering (multiskilled preferred).
  • Experience working with automated material handling systems.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to understand mechanical, electrical, and electronic manuals and drawings.
  • Proven competence in health and safety standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Basic understanding of control systems and techniques.
  • Ability to work in a time-critical environment.
  • Effective time and workload management skills.
  • Proficiency in PC use and Microsoft Office.
